In Tears of the Kingdom, all meals made at a lit Cooking Pot can have one of sixteen possible effects depending on the ingredients used. However, the requirements for the recipes can conflict with certain effects. Due to these conflicting requirements, there are some meal/effect combinations which are within the code but cannot be obtained via normal means. These conflicts can happen for multiple reasons.

Possible Conflicts Explained

Some recipes require ingredients with specific effects. Since meals can't have multiple, simultaneous effects, this means it's impossible to make versions of these meals with any other effects.
For example: if a recipe requires a crab, then using a Bright-Eyed Crab makes it Energizing, a Razorclaw Crab makes it Mighty, an Ironshell Crab makes it Tough, and adding either multiple types of crabs or a compatible ingredient with a conflicting effect will result in a neutral variant. All other effects are thus unobtainable.

A few recipes require multiple ingredients with different effects. In these cases, the effects will always cancel out, causing these meals to never have any effect.
Creamy Heart Soup is one example of this, requiring ingredients with three different effects.

Even if a recipe doesn't require ingredients with specific effects, certain variants can still be unobtainable. This happens whenever adding an ingredient with the desired effect will override the recipe and result in an entirely different meal.
For example, adding mushrooms or fish to a Cheesy Meat Bowl will always result in a Cheesy Risotto. If an effect is limited to one of those two ingredient types (such as Bright), then that variant of the meal cannot be obtained.

There's also some recipes which require five ingredients - none of which have any effects. Only five ingredients total can be added to a recipe, as such, these meals will always be neutral. Plain Crepes and Wildberry Crepes are both examples of this.

  1. 1.0 1.1 Due to the removal of Hearty Blueshell Snails, several meals have Hearty variants in Breath of the Wild which are no longer obtainable in Tears of the Kingdom. This includes both Hearty Seafood Skewers and Hearty Seafood Fried Rice.
  2. Unlike the meals referenced above, Hearty Snail Chowder is NOT obtainable in Breath of the Wild since Snail Chowder was first introduced in Tears of the Kingdom. Attempting to make it will result in Clam Chowder instead, which is exclusive to Breath of the Wild.
  3. Due to the removal of Hearty Durians, the Hearty Curry Rice recipe is obtainable in Breath of the Wild but unobtainable in Tears of the Kingdom.
