Link's name has been mentioned in three titles: Adventure of Link, A Link to the Past, and Link's Awakening.

A Link to the Past clearly had nothing to do with Link's name. It definitely means a connection to the past. After all, the story revolves around that connection.

And to whoever said A Link to the Past isn't named that because of Link's name, I think you're wrong. It's a double meaning, definitely intentional.
