Filled the kettle up, turned it on, pressed the button, and then watched TV for a min. Went back into the kitchen, and the water wasn't boiled... why hadn't it boiled?

"Andy, did you break the kettle?"

"No. Why?"

"It's not working."

*Andy enters. He studys the kettle for a second, before plugging it in*

Earlier today I was going to make some pasta for dinner, I left the pot of water on the stove for like 10 minutes and the water still wasn't boiling. It was making me mad until I realised I didn't turn the stove on.
