So you are mostly interested in the darkness as a way of improving plot?It would improve the immersion.
(And not necessarily gameplay?)

Zelda as a protagonist. I've never been satisfied with Link as a character. He's barely more than a cardboard cutout, and he rarely expresses any sort of initiative. Maybe now that Miyamoto isn't hovering over everyone and telling them to stop being creative, Zelda can have her time to shine.
I think Link is intentionally a silent protagaonist (and one without an internal flaw that needs overcoming). This allows the audience to project themselves onto him, which is a common technique in storytelling, especially videogames.
Please show me link drooling on himselfI can't project myself onto someone who doesn't talk, has no personalty, and drools on himself. If he's an audience stand-in, let us customize him. If he isn't, then they should stop using it as an excuse and characterize him.
I just want a little more structure like in the previous games, doesn't have to be the typical zelda forumla, just don't want it to be open ended again
though I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't happen
It's a reasonable assumption given his tendency to stare vacantly at people and his inability to form complex thoughts. Please show me link drooling on himself
