While the characters in BotW could be better, BotW has a lot of really good characters, but none of them get enough time. Kinda falls under BotW sacrificing story for gameplay.

Breath of the Wild is a really good game with the best gameplay in the series and a deep, interesting, thought-provoking and emotional story, and more interesting characters and plots than every other Zelda game combined, excluding Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask.

...................................................................Isn't she just a cucoo farmer that mistook herself to be the Hero of Legend, and then got herself stuck in her own adventure that didn't have anything to do with the main plot of Hyrule Warriors and was just her own side missions agaisnt Skull Kid?
