Things That Are on Your Mind

I've decided that I'm going to act more mature on this site and in my life from now on. I don't want to be the irresponsible, immature, and childish person I've been for so long. I'm hoping things will be better in the long run for me doing so.

You're right. Maybe it was some kid's cleaning their room and not knowing any better. Just throwing stuff out.

Nothing much on my mind other than the moon. Lol. It's huge and bright orange. When I googled "orange moon" I found that it's because of smoke and stuff blocking the light coming off of it. It's quite pretty. The smoke must be from the wildfires out West.

Thinking about getting a pair of ferrets.

Been heavily considering what kind of pet I want to get lately now that I have my own space, and couldn't decide. A recent encounter outside with someone walking their ferrets reaffirmed why they used to be one of my favourite pets. They're incredibly playful, super friendly, and absolutely adorable, plus small enough that I would have plenty of space for them in my basement suite. They sleep for 14-18 hours a day, which is perfect for my working lifestyle.

Biggest downside is that they almost always thrive better in pairs, which means double the costs. But overall it's still more affordable than, or very comparable to, owning bigger pets like dogs and cats which would be tougher to take care of in my place. Ferrets would be perfect.

The fact that I keep getting into arguments with my sister, yet she's the one taking care of me. She does everything for me, and I treat her like ****. And I only just realized how stressed she is having to take care of me, I need to keep that in mind from now on.

I didn't really have a chance to give an update on my holiday but it went extremely well. As always it was wonderful seeing my partner and we are getting closer to each other each time we meet. This time we also met for dinner with my family for the second time which went very well and now we are planning our next trip already (Japan again).

Far North Queensland is a truly beautiful destination. Being able to visit the world's oldest rainforrest (The Daintree) and stay overnight in it was stunning. We were lucky enough to stumble across 2 wild cassowaries and got to also see 5 wild crocs along the river banks in a riverboat tour we went along for.

I was also able to try both snorkeling and scuba diving for the first time in my life and where better to do that than The Great Barrier Reef? I was pretty nervous for the diving at first but it was so much fun and absolutely a bucket list item checked off. The outer reef section I visited was vibrant and full of life so I spent hours swimming alongside the pontoon and being immersed in the environment. Exploring Cairns city and its bars, visiting Fitzroy Island, and riding the Kuranda scenic railway and skycar were all other great highlights and the weather was perfect the entire time we were there so I feel we got so lucky. I highly recommend visiting that part of the world if you ever get a chance to come to Australia.

I was hoping to see a reef shark or a turtle but unfortunately it wasn't to be. I did get to see turtles in a rehabilitation faciity and at Fitzroy Island though. On the reef itself I saw many varieties of smaller fish and a many of Nemo and Dory from Finding Nemo They'd swim right up amongst you and infront of your goggles which was super cool. The biggest fish I saw was a Maori Wrasse named Wally who apparently is always hanging around the pontoon I visited.

Did you manage to get out of the airport there? The esplanade is interesting because half of the day it is water up to the boardwalk and the other half of the day it is just mud flats for a long way out. If you were only there on a layover I imagine you probably only saw one or the other?

Something else I really liked about Cairns was that there are so many Japanese people there so the Japanese food felt really authentic. It seemed like nearly all shop staff there spoke Japanese and shops were advertising that you can pay in Japanese yen in their windows which I've never seen down here in Sydney before.

The Great Barrier Reef has 6/7 of the world's species of Sea Turtles and we saw three of them - the Hawksbill, Green Turtle, and Flatback. The rehabilitation center was an extra experience we booked which was behind the scenes at the Cairns Aquarium. They plan to reintroduce them to the wild once they are well enough and have a great success rate.

That's so cool.

Fun little fact, guitar picks used to be made from the shells of Hawksbill sea turtles, but we've since discovered better materials for that, which makes me happy, since I always had a soft spot for reptiles.

My wife is a little spooked to visit because of horror stories of Sydney funnel web spiders hiding in peoples' shoes.

I've always liked Straya. Y'all be crazy down there, but that's part of the charm, lol.
