They might be bysexual and like both men and women

True I'm thinking this too. Or maybe they are trying not to be gay by trying to go hang out with women.BTW How is the Ocarina of Time Commercial Sexist. I've watched it,but I don't see it.

I know that commecial. Darn straight I play like a girl. I beat the game, too - and Master Quest! Adventure of Link was harder and I've beaten that *several times*! So, neener!

I think that commercial was American, though, as in Miaymoto had nothing to do with it other than giving Nintendo of America the right to make their own commercials for the game. I remember seeing the Japanese commercial for OoT and I don't think that one had any text in it at all.

I don't know if the carpenters were meant to be gay or bi. That's something you'd have to ask the creators for. They could be... I'm not going to contest anyone who wants to write yaoi fanfic of them or anything. I just think it's as likely they may be straight or "unspecified" and, upon actually finding out what the hot ladies were like, got scared of them.

In my mind, I have this whole Gerudo-reproduction system going on. I believe that the Gerudo take Hylian men every once in a while (as indicated by a Castle Town gossip stone), but that they probably only like men who are "worthy" in their eyes. It is common in nature for animals to only choose the strongest to pass on genes to the next generation. The carpenters are lazy, fat and kind of ugly. They were probably expecting to get some lovin' from the feirce Gerudo who only want strong men to make strong babies and it was a mistake. And they were probably very dissapointed.

Of course, maybe they weren't looking for love in all the wrong places and actually wanted to join the tribe as theives - in which case, them being gay and wanting gal pals and/or just an exciting life is entirely possible. I remember one of them in Kakariko when Link is in child stage talking off-hand about how life would be easier if he were a theif, so the whole "we want to be thieves!" could have been the primary motivation rather than "We want lovin' from hot ladies."

Now, if you want some possible gay in OoT... look no futher than the Poe Salesman! Of course, we do not know if they're a man or a woman, really, but I would think man. The line he gives Link about "If I looked as good as you..." is kind of... he could just be business-minded, or he could be flirting. Considering that everything that moves that's not out to kill him flirts with Link in that game...

Now, in Twilight Princess... You know Fyer and Falbi? They're supposed to be business partners, former circus preformers. In my mind, however, they're gay partners just because they're so... flamboyant, especially Falbi and the way he sashays and his manner toward Link. (Now, I think he and Fyer are happy together and faithful to each other, but...) I don't know. They may have been meant by Nintendo to just be businessmen and their mannerisms connected to being former circus stars, but, you know, they just seem like "over the top camp gay" to me.

Smack me if I'm being offensive. I'm trying not to be, but since I've not had a lot of close relationships with gay people in my life (and I *used* to be Southern Baptist), sometimes I don't know if I'm accidently treading on toes and am deeply sorry if I am - by accident.

As I have said before, there are homosexuals out there that have many female friends but no male ones, although that depends on if they are feminine or masculine. I know a guy in the year below mine that is quite feminine, and basically only has female friends because he feels more comfortable around them, not because he wants to try and change his sexuality.

Being homosexual isn't a choice, you can not just decide that you want to have a certain sexuality as that is what you wish to be, it is much more complex than that. If they were homosexual, it would be more likely that they were going to the Gerudo camp so that they could befriend the Gerudo woman, and could relate to them. If they are straight, which they most likely are, then they would be going to camp to try and have a relationship. Even though with their looks they probably would get turned down by every single one there.

Anyway, back on topic. I don't really believe that there are that many things that suggest the Carpenters are homosexual. There is only some very poor and weak evidence that can be put forward to show that they are in my opinion, such as the way they run. The way they run can be countered with that their large build doesn't really allow them to run like a normal man, thus they have to lean back to counterweight all of that fat.

One of them does state that Link is a "cute kid", but that's something that any adult might say to child they think is cute, no matter how weird it may be. To be honest, it is weird that they say that, but it's not enough in my eyes to be sure that the Carpenters are homosexuals.

This thread was amusing, I'll admit. I don't know if they're gay or not, but I think the fact that they wanted to hang out in an all women's group is indicative that they're straight. But then they didn't want to hang out with them because they're rude and abrasive.

I thought that too for a second, that they only wanted to go there as it's all women so that may be nice for them.
But at the same time we must consider that they were escaping doing their jobs as carpenters (which they were also doing in Kakariko when you're a child, which indicates they still don't like the job), which may be an indication that they just feel like it's too much of a manly and tough job for them, though that's assumption.

They never specify they want to join the Gerudo's because they like them or because they want to be thieves, they just say it's all women, which would maybe be people they'd get along with better (instead of their manly boss). But they tried to escape cuz they're "too rude", I don't know, for some reason that line just doesn't seem like something a guy would say, leaving cuz girls are "too rude" xD

As someone else mentioned, some gay guys prefer hanging out with women more though.
Most of my friends are girls really xD Cuz they just seem to be more comfortable with it and handle it better, so that point doesn't actually clarfiy they're straight or whatever.

And lets not forget, they say they'll repay Link somehow later, but it's never specified. SEXUAL INNUENDO MUCH? ;)

I think it'd seem more normal if it was child Link then... (or maybe not lmfao).
But I do think that could at least incline that one carpenter on being gay though.
I don't know though, just fun speculation lmao n__n

Ohhh, I didn't know that they wanted to be thieves back when they were in Kakariko, humph ;(

And lmao that's not offensive at all, haha :D
Though what you mentioned in TP may be true, I haven't played it in a long time... the guy at the top of Lake Hylia is pretty camp though, so yeah.

AND OH LETS NOT FORGET TINGLE.
Fine fine, he may just be wanting to be a fairy man from the woods as he loves them so much.
But, Link is (well not technically), a fairy boy, and he is not flamboyant like Tingle.
Muahaha, the gayness in Zelda. I wonder what else...

TWINROVA! They were Ganondorf's mothers, lmao.
Ganondorf might have had a shirt that said "My two mums are the best" c:

The best evidence is the "cute kid" part. But, um, you do realize that if that was intended sexually that doesn't only make them gay but pedophiles? Due to this and the family friendly nature of Zelda, there is no way it was sexual. In other words they were just commenting that Link was a cute kid. Kids are cute. =\

And we could say, if Zelda was being somewhat stereotyping people back then (we know the commercial for OoT was sexist)...
Huh? Are you talking about the Japanese OoT commercial? I fail to see what's sexist about it. If you could elaborate?

Exactly. And the "rude" part is really just a gag on the fact that they were sexist and imprisoned them. :bleh:

I never really believed that these guys would be homosexual. I always thought they said they went to the place because of their desire to become thieves instead of carpenters. And just because one calls Link 'A cute kid' doesn't mean they they necessarily are gay. Yeah, kids can be cute sometimes.
Falbi seems more like it to me.:xd:

There are double entendres and sexual references in most Zelda games; you just have to look for them. ;)

But in all seriousness, how and why did this question come up?

Don't forget that the carpenters sing in Malon's 'choir' at the end of OoT (the fire). I've looked around on YT, and all the OoT commercials I've seen there say 'Whilst thou sour, or whilst thou suck?' So maybe NoA changed this and they're the ones being sexist.
Interesting topic, I guess it's a different kind of theory.

Cuz of one of the carpenters calling Link a "cute kid" after saving him in the Gerudo Fortress, mostly.
It's on the video about 5 minutes in lmao

Well this happened during the adult part of the game, when Link is about 17 years old or so. That makes him almost an adult really, and if I had an older guy call me a cute kid (I'm 17), I wouldn't see that as "normal" (hate saying that cuz it is truly normal, just that in other people's eyes it may be different or whatever; I'm all for other ways of lifestyle). Oh, better wording, I'd probably see that as the guy having some sort of a flirting attitude towards me or having some sort of sexual inclination to the same sex. I mean, really, a guy calling 17 year old boy a cute kid wouldn't make you wonder?

About the commercial, I was talking about the OoT commercial in which part of the video says something like "Will thou save the girl... or play like one?". I can't find the commercial, but I think it wasn't a small topic when it happened xD Though I guess I should rule that out as it was most likely part of the advertising team instead of the character design team, which would be two completely different parts. I only mentioned it becaused I figured if they were bold enough to include sexism, it wouldn't be a big deal to make stereotypes of different type's of people and adding them to the game.

And yes, I see the point there, though this may only be my own view of it, but I found it silly that they wanted to leave because they were "rude". They were imprisoned after trying to leave though, weren't they? I don't know, as I said, it's my own view on it, but it just makes me think it's quite a delicate excuse to leave for. You'd think a macho man or a straight guy would try and stay because they're often seen as strong or truly want to show that male empowerment, but in this case they chose to escape.

It can be seen in different ways though, I get it, but this is just light speculation on minor characters, it's not meant to be taken super seriously, it's just a light fun topic lmao.

The original commerical had "Wilst thou get the girl? Or just play like one?" It wouldn't surprise me if they changed it. LoZ has lots of female fans. (Raises hand)!

The carpenter that makes the reference to wanting to be a theif in the child portion is in one of the houses. I think the house that you eventually go through (in the adult era) to get to the hag's potion shop. It's been a while since I played, though, so my memory might be fuzzy. Maybe he's only in Master Quest.

Haha.... in both OoT and TP, it seems like almost everyone flirts with Link. It's rather cute, actually.

Normally, I'm a very "anti-yaoi" person. I just don't like slash... people bugging me to read it/write it, view it or draw it annoy me. I just don't relate to it. I prefer heterosexual stuff because I relate to it more (and even there, I don't relate very well. I'm more of a Gen fan / non-romantic), as I'm more on the "aesxuality" end of the scale. Don't let my being in a relationship fool you: even at my age, I'm happily still a virgin (it's not "self-control" so much as just "lack of interest" so it's nothing to praise me for). In my last fandom, I had some people pressuring me to be more sexual in my interests than I am, people who acted like if you didn't like this or that pairing or even slash/yaoi stuff in general, you were stupid, people whining about it being "canon" because of some super secret clues that only they could see (despite a main character that was an incorrigable flirt with women, never fellow men and had stacks and stacks of issues that would guarnatee most relationships for him would fail, not the least of which being the fact that people who got close to him as friends often wound up dead thanks to his enemies...) Add to that that, during part of my stay in my last fandom, I *was* Southern Baptist and wasn't quite *ready* to be the tolerant person I am today ( I had to come about slowly and being treated like a Nazi because I didn't want to read/view porn didn't help me come around)... It's created a sort of backlash feeling against slash for me in general.

And thus, in my brand new fandom, naturally, I tend to prefer Link with ladies. At the same time, I'm not quite as against slash/yaoi in Zelda fandom as I was in my last fandom because, unlike that last fandom where the characters had well-defined personalties, tons of issues, and a creator who outright told people in interviews "They're not gay" only to be ignored, The Legend of Zelda has characters with minimal personalities and lots of possibilities. Link, for instance, is a "link" to the player, thus if the player is a gay guy who likes the idea of Link with one of the guys in a game, he can imagine as such, while it's equally not *wrong* for me to imagine him being with Zelda, or riding off to parts unknown to live the rest of his life doing random heroism alone.

I love how the carpenter who calls Link cute also says that the women are so scary. :D
