Very much a dude.
What instrument do you always think sounds the best?

That is, in terms of tone and timbre and quality of the sound?

For me, it's a guitar, fretless bass, cello, a pipe organ, and a grand piano.

For me, nothing beats the cello. Its warm, smooth tone is beautiful when played well and it's so incredibly versatile.

I'm also a sucker for low woodwinds, particular the contrabass clarinet. Its upper range has a similar timbre to the cello and when played really well has an absolutely beautiful tone.

It really depends almost entirely on the embouchure and technique being applied, like you get some really unique sounds out of a trumpet or saxophone if you have enough control

There are so many, but the piano, pipe organ, flute, shamisen, and acoustic guitar are some of my favorites. Also ZUN trumpets (if you know, you know. If you don't, then here you go).
Also also, when played by someone with sufficient skill, the accordion can be rather beautiful.

For me it's violin. I can't afford a violin let alone lessons, but I love listening to the music on Youtube.

I'm a Sherlock Holmes fan and I read a lot of Sherlock Holmes novels and I learned more about violins and classical music reading those books.

Also, I love violin classical music like Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, Tchaïkovsky, etc.

I listen to my violin music playlist from time to time when I read or do house chores:

Well, you know the difference between a violin and a fiddle, right?
I do.

Edit:

A good summary from google:

Fiddle
A colloquial term for the violin, often used for folk, bluegrass, Cajun, country, and some Celtic music. Fiddlers may use steel strings, fine-tuners on all four strings, and a modified bridge for easier double stops.

Violin
Typically used for Western classical music, jazz, orchestras, symphonies, and chamber music. Violinists may use synthetic strings, an unwrapped steel E string, and a fine tuner.

No, it's the tax bracket.

One is strung with strings, the other is strung with strangs. :)
