I still refuse to get my hopes up for a story mode. Though if it were actually incorporated, it may be all it takes for me to finally get at least a little excited for the game.

Anybody notice that Japan is celebrating a certain 77th Anniversary by Dropping this ultimate smash Bomb on the world? We're sure to be Surprised by the Campaign mode.

Just going to bump this because I want to make sure everyone sees this PSA. By the way, I've heard it's confirmed that all of the characters have been spoiled, has anyone heard of this includes DLC? If not, I could absolutely see Primrose making a Mr. Game & Watch-style two dimensional appearance. The game was a bit of a sleeper hit, she's by far the most popular character, and a dancer would have a very unique moveset.

It's only a PSA if you don't know how fighting games work. No one plays fighting games for the story or the fact there might be secret hidden characters. It's like how no one watches porn for the acting. It's all about the fighting action in fighting games. That's why people play them. Knowing all the chracters before hand is not spoilery at all. That's totally fine. It's not like you've played them before launch. How each character plays is the spoilery part and that people find out when they play the game itself.

Octopath Traveler is not a sleeper hit. It's an outright hit and console seller. I don't think any of the Octopath Traveler characters will ever be in Smash Bros. Simply because the game does not have one or a few main protagnists. All of the 8 playable characters have equal screen time. Also there's not much to go off either. Most characters have movesets based off their actual game move sets. The Octopath 8 don't really move at all apart from a few basic attack animations in combat.

That's...wow, I'm not even sure how to respond to that. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume your overly rude and combative tone is due to misreading what I wrote, not understanding what I wrote, or a reduced standard for teaching world history in today's academic environment. Suffice to say, the PSA was tongue-in-cheek.

As for Octopath, perhaps "sleeper hit" doesn't exactly do the game justice. I mean that the game wasn't expected to do as well as it did, and with disproportionately little hype which is a common usage of the term "sleeper hit" in today's media. Primrose is by far the most popular character and could absolutely have a full moveset based on her skill set. I don't think she's nearly as limited in unique moves as you seen to think *cough*iceclimbersfoxfalcowolfroymarthlucinaikeyoshicaptainfalconPACMAN*cough*. And let me be clear and take definition number three from good ol' Merriam Webster: 3: information about the plot of a motion picture or TV program that can spoil a viewer's sense of surprise or suspense; also : a person who discloses such information

So you're right, video games aren't included there, meaning I am wrong about SSBU characters being spoiled before launch. Consider this my formal apology.

EDIT: To be entirely clear, I'm using "spoiler" in the sense that it's most often meant, the dictionary definition (with the caveat that it's implied to include video games as well), in that the information had been made publicly available. I don't think it's a bad thing, I'm fine with the characters being spoiled. Perhaps there is a clarification that can be made. The characters are not subjectively "spoiled" for me (definition number one: ruined), the characters are spoiled as a state of being vis-a-vis, definition number three.

Hopefully that clears up what I meant by "spoiled".

Sarcasm does not come accross well over the internet. Almost everytime a PSA is mentioned online, the person is serious about something they want everyone to know. Thus I didn't know your PSA was "tongue-in-cheek". To that I apologise.

Octopath Traveler had a huge amount of pre-release promotion and a couple of demos. Sure it's not a hit on the level of Pokemon or Smash Bros, but it was still a hit.
In relation to Primrose, lets look at the dancer move set.

  • Lion Dance (4 SP) - Raises a party member’s physical attack stat for two turns.
  • Mole Dance (4 SP) - Boost a party member’s physical defense for two turns.
  • Panther Dance (4 SP) - Boosts a party member’s speed for two turns.
  • Peacock Strut (4 SP) - Boost a party member’s elemental attacks for two turns.
  • Moonlight Waltz (7 SP) - Deals massive dark-elemental damage to one enemy.
  • Night Ode (10 SP) - Deals dark-elemental damage to all enemies.
  • Bewildering Grace (25 SP) - Causes a random effect to happen once.
  • Sealticge’s Seduction (Divine Skill, 30 SP) - Target party member’s skills that usually target one enemy will target all for three turns.
She deals dark damage or boosts her party's stats. That's it.
You are correct that she could have a full move set. There's nothing stopping people inventing one for her, however that's not how Sakurai usually works. Sakurai takes moves already in the other character's games, either directly or edits them a little and they become the moves for that character in Smash Bros. There's nothing stoping him inventing a moveset for her though. I will say if Sakurai was to pull it off, I would be impressed.
The characters you mentioned from Smash Bros do have limited movesets though so that's a very valid point.

About the plot, we are talking a fighting game here. Not an indept RPG or other similarly story deep game. You are 100% correct that story spoilers kill hype for games. That's why I do believe if there's an SSE or similar thing in SSB Ultimate it should not be spoiled at all.

Finally, I do apologise also. Thank you for your reply too.

Dag, I think I was slightly too vague about the "PSA". Do a quick Google for the event that took place exactly 77 years before the release of SSBU (December 7th, 1941) and then digest my original "PSA": Anybody notice that Japan is celebrating a certain 77th Anniversary by Dropping this ultimate smash Bomb on the world? We're sure to be Surprised by the Campaign mode.

Coming through clearer? I capitalized key words to hopefully tip people off. The joke was already in poor taste (I know, shock value is low-brow) and now that I've explained it, it'll seem even more so. But hey, I stand by it for the sake of comedy!

Also, no hard feelings at all, it was my fault for being so vague. I don't think that showing off all of the characters is going to damage the game at release, I'm fine with having seen the roster. Squaresoft already has representation in Smash so Octopath may not get a character but I don't think it's entirely out of the realm of plausibility.

I think a Pokemon newcomer may drop in the Direct tomorrow but I really dont want it to be a Sun and Moon rep because they suck.

Rumours surfacing that Incineroar will be playable for some reason and I don't like the sound of it at all. Honestly I don't even know what other Pokemon characters they could add without it being forced or redundant. Who knows though, I'm pretty sure I said the same thing before Smash 4, haha.

Dunno if this has been brought to attention here yet, but a recent scan from CoroCoro actually shows us we're going to have 108 stages.
