TPHD-Wii U Is TP really worth the full price of a new game?

I think this kind of thing really does vary from individual to individual. In my case, I feel like it's worth it. But I know that I'll probably do at least 2 run throughs, which will come out to a decent amount of time sunk into the game - significantly more than a good portion of the games that come out nowadays. And chances are, I'll enjoy those hours quite a bit. So for me, I can afford it and I know that I'll get a good experience out of it, so why not?

However, I do understand the reasoning behind not buying the game - the content gating with amiibo is definitely not the best practice, and if you base your purchases off principle, then chances are that's enough to keep you off of the remaster. It's a shame too - Wind Waker HD did a lot to change the general opinion about the game, and I was hoping that the remaster for Twilight Princess could do the same. But issues like the amiibo gating are going to make it hard for the remaster to have any sort of positive effect on public opinion.

As a bit of a side note, I really don't understand the complaints about the Zelda/Link amiibo functions. You shouldn't feel compelled to buy an amiibo just because you can use it for a little cheat code once per day - it's effects are so much of an afterthought that there's simply no actual change in gameplay with or without them. The Ganondorf and Wolf Link amiibo have more important functionalities that shouldn't be gated, but complaining about the other amiibo is useless - having them, or not having them, will not improve your gameplay experience at all.

It's actually only $40. It costs $60 because of the "free" amiibo included. In other countries, you can buy it without the amiibo. Once again, we are shown that Nintendo doesn't give a **** about giving North Americans the same choices as other people. No ****ing idea why, but they don't.
You can buy it everywhere without the amiibo. Just look on the eShop on release day.

I do find it funny that NA people think Nintendo don't care about them. Shall I remind you about all the the following that NA has?
  • Lower game prices than the EU and Australia
  • Usually early release dates than the EU and Australia (a few exceptions though)
  • The Nintendo physical store in NY to buy all your amazing physical Nintendo loot. The EU and Australia does not have this.
  • NA had a better club Nintendo than the EU and Australia.
  • Reggie and Trinen
  • Nintendo fansites that never ignore you. A few of the prominent Nintendo fansites ignore all Nintendo news relating to Australia and abuse you if you complain about it. The 4th Nintendo region is Australia and New Zealand. Nintendo care about the region (to a point), but the fan sites do not (ZD/ZI excluded. I'm talking more about Nintendo Everything, NintendoLife etc etc).
  • E3
  • Certain releases never made it to the EU and Australia but NA had them. Sure a few never made it to NA, the number that never made NA was a lot less but a few of the good games are in that list. So this point is closer to being equal I guess.
  • And much more.
I am not here to complain. Just stating the facts. You should be thankful for everything you have, not complaining about the one thing in the mountain of Nintendo goodies that you do not have.
I know I am thankful, I'm Australian, we do ahve it bad here but we get to play the games here, and for me that's enough. I'm happy with this. That's the trick, to be happy with what you have, not what you do not have.

Game prices and fansites have absolutely nothing at all to do with Nintendo. The fact that there was no regular sized version of the New 3DS until the Happy Home Designer bundle absolutely ages later shows how little they care about NA nowadays.

Realistically, TPHD is not worth more than $30. There are four points of view and a sort of price range for each view that I have in mind.

It's worth it ($49.99 or $59.99w/WLamiibo)
This is the point of view from someone who loves the series and will get their hands on any entry whenever it releases. I would assume they ignore the price of the different amiibo, and simply enjoy a Zelda experience whether old or new.

I would buy it if... ($39.99 w/WLamiibo)
This is the pov from someone who recognizes the features that are locked behind the amiibo. Given that WL comes in a bundle (will be separate in the future), they would snag that bundle for $40USD max, and grab at least Ganondorf for $10 or $13 full retail to get a hearty challenge.

Why should I buy it even half off when... ($19.99 w/WLamiibo)
This is the pov from someone who sees Twilight Princess Nintendo Select -- and yes indeed, the game is only $20 and still runs on ANY Wii U. TPHD is menial texture upgrades right? but more on that.

I am already playin TPHD! (free)
This is the POV of one who sails the seven seas. they are emulating the title, or already have the title on gamecube, wii, or wii u and use the TPHD bonuses via action replay or gameshark codes.

I wouldn't really call Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask "remakes" either. To me, when I hear remake, I think of Tomb Raider Anniversary. The entire game was redone from the ground up, from the graphics to the gameplay. While it was very similar to the original as a whole, you compared it the way someone might compare one of the many "reboots" of Spiderman or Superman. Same thing, rebuilt in the mind of a new team.

As for whether or not it's worth it... Honestly, I was ready to plunk down cash before I heard about the Amiibo. I played through the game again about a year ago, and was kind of disappointed in a way. The gameplay was as fun as ever, but the graphics looked horrible on my WiiU. Low res textures are bad enough but, really? Dithering? The game was overdue for a cleanup.

It's my favorite game so yeah i have too. don't wanna wait for years before it's a Nintendo select game.

Also i just can't replay the original too blurry on my hdtv..
And don't wanna dust off my old CRT lol.

I see myself getting it just so I can still say I own all the Zelda games, and as for the price, for a re-release with some extra content it's justified, keep in mind some people think this game isn't a remake but a new game. On another note Fire Emblem: PoR is $100 on amazon. THAT is ludicrous.

TPHD is nothing but a cash grab. Once again you'll hear the tired defense from shills that goes something similar to "this is made for those who never experienced TP" which points to two things:

1) Anyone who hasn't experienced TP can do so for $19.99 if they own a Wii or a Wii U.
2) Because this is for those that never expereinced TP, one can only infer that the changes if any at all done to TPHD were minuscule at best.

Owning every Zelda is impossible, because many games weren't released — even including what we can buy it is still pretty hard — I think @Mases and I are of the view people in the Zelda community that has even come close to that seeing as we own every Zelda game we can possibly own excluding Too Much Tingle Pack and the unreleased games (I even own multiple copies of games like four copies of Zelda's Adventure).

How many more would you need to truly own all that can be bought?

If you want the most exhaustive answer including games we know we're getting that are yet to be released that you could possibly own, about 50 out of 57 of which I own 49.
