How would you handle Zelda as a protagonist?

I'm just a curmudgeon that doesn't like change.

I think Link should definitely continue to be the main hero you get to play, but a Zelda game where you play Princess Zelda instead would be neat. Maybe even one where you switch between them like Paper Mario and Halo 2.

It would be a very fitting shift, finally the namesake of the franchise being the focal protagonist you play. I think the timing is right and it would be a great game! Would be fun to go Mario’s Missing or Luigi’s Mansion (GameCube) with Link gets captured by Ganondorf or something and Zelda says the line, “It’s my turn to save you.”

I mean technically this wouldn't be the first time the namesake shifted to the actual name of the series. If you go by the lore of Metroid, Samus at this point is literally a Metroid in and of herself. She has Chozo, Metroid, and Parasite X DNA in her system, even to the point where she shares the same weaknesses as an actual Metroid.

I know, you're good, and technically, Spirit Tracks' main focus is actually being able to switch between Zelda and Link in a sense, but having her as the main protagonist is something else. So that's already been done. Unless you mean like the Chapter epilogues from Paper Mario where you control Peach at the end of every Chapter. But even if Link captured by Ganondorf. He's proven countless times that he can break out of any Hyrule prison, Gerudo Fortress if you get spotted in Ocarina of Time, Hyrule Castle, towards the beginning of Twilight Princess. Breaking out Zelda, at the beginning of A Link to the Past, Pirate's Hideout in Majora's Mask, Forsaken Fortress in Wind Waker. Thing is, Link is an expert Escape Artist, if he was to move around a Gerudo Hideout like Peach is able to in Paper Mario. Link's capture will only last 5 minutes at most, and that's only if Link is taking his sweet ass time in the dungeon.

I’d love Ganondorf captures Link, and corrupts him with his Dark Link nature and Zelda has to collect Triforce shards or maybe some light based fragments to imbue her Master Sword at the final battle to cure Link and remove the corruption.

That would be interesting, but where's the Plot Twist, it's standard for every Zelda game to have a Plot Twist towards the middle of the game, The only ones that don't is Majora's Mask, and possibly the NES games, but you can't really blame that those two.
