Favorite Pairings?

Scrapper and Fi is sad *cries* Interesting how you would compare it to Wall E, makes a lot of sense. Am I the only one who goes "wtf" at Scrapper's nickname for Link? You can't call someone "master shortpants" if they are taller than you -_-

And I almost forgot: Pipit x Karane. It's canon :)

LoZ - My favorite pairing is Linkx5everalone. There is hardly any story in LoZ, which is natural for a NES game, but even considering that the object of the game is Link rescuing Zelda...I don't think the two go together at all. Even if it's canon that Link and Zelda hook up, it just doesn't seem natural for me!

AoL - See LoZ.

ALttP - See LoZ. Link basically woke up, got a message and BAM he's on some quest to save Zelda. Not enough reason for the two to be paired together!

LA - Link x Marin is my absolute favorite. For whatever reason, "is this your big chance?", just tickles me inside whenever I see it. Also,
when Link beats the game, looks up to the sky and sees Marin, it basically hints at them having an impossible relationship, which was cute imo
. LinkxZelda might be what most shippers go after for LA (especially since we now know it's something like ALttP/OoX/LA), but LinkxMarin is my fan pairing for LA.

OoT- Major controversial opinion coming up, but LinkxSaria is the ONLY pairing as far as I and OoT are concerned. Link has known Saria his entire life basically, and they're truly best friends. Even when separated by the whole sage thing, Saria manages to say " will always be your friend". Mido even says
Oh...I see... Saria won't ever come back... But...I...I made a promise to Saria... If Link came back, I would be sure to tell him that Saria had been waiting for him... Because Saria...really... liked... Hey, you. If you see him somewhere, please let him know... And also... I'm sorry for being mean to him. Tell him that, too.
Come on, if that isn't a clear sign of love, I don't know what is. Also, completely disregard the fact that she has the appearance of a child. She clearly isn't a child through wit alone! LinkxSaria FOREVER!

MM - Another weird one coming up. LinkxCremia is my favorite thing in existence. Why?

It's almost like they're mother and son. It's a beautiful relationship. I ship this 24/7 OTP

Take a guess.
Whaat? Why aren't the Gameboy games possible to make pairing decisions on? What about Link x Marin? That's one of my favorites.

My primary favorite is ZeLink, just because it makes sense, but I'll accept pretty much anything. I'm not big into romance stuff (though my signature probably suggests otherwise XD). For TP, MidLink is definitely more canon – and for a long time, I felt like you, believing that there was no possible way they could like each other when she only sees him in human form at the end of the game for a few minutes. But I've seen it portrayed really well (as far as fanfiction goes) and it's fantastic.

Like I said earlier, Link x Marin is probably my second favorite. It's pretty heavily implied, anyway, and Marin's so awesome. I really want to write an LA story of this pairing some day.

I'm pretty much great with anything after that. For other character pairings... Fi x Scrapper is so adorable. ^^ And I'm sure there are others I'm not thinking about right now...

First off, two general questions I've had for a while now:
- Why do people refer to romantically pairing up characters as 'shipping'?
- Why are these pairings always indicated with 'x'?

Anyway, if I had to have a favourite it would be OoT Link and Malon (sorry, "I would 'ship' OoT Link x Malon"... Is that right?) She was the only character I really felt there was any romantic feeling towards. Saria was the long time friend and all of that and I can see why people go for that but once Link realises that Saria will never be anything more than a child I'd assume that would limit a romantic relationship's development. Ruto was just crazy, Link even recoils from her at one point. Nothing doing there (at least, Link doesn't reciprocate any feelings Ruto has). Impa and Nabooru are both much older than Link and I find it hard picturing him having romantic feelings towards either of them.

However, with Malon he has a friend since childhood too. They get on well and quickly find common ground to bond over. It helps that Malon is very pretty (arguably the prettiest girl in all Hyrule) and through Epona they have something that will naturally and inevitably draw them closer together. Malon describes Sheik as a handosme man at one point, which shows she has romantic feelings for heroic types, and she calls Link her knight in shining armour too. It always seemed to me that a relationship with Malon was something intentionally hinted at since there's quite a bit to lead you to that conclusion.

The Great Fairy and Link from Wind Waker. LOL! I don't know why I like them. They're a cute couple and Link doesn't seem to mind. :3

O_O

I... Don't like that... Thing...
She'd probably eat his heart or something. Like, literally take it from him and eat it. She seems the type.

I don't know why they call it shipping. And when I first saw the x, I read it as: So and so times so and so, like a math problem lol. I guess that makes sense with hetero pairings, because of the possibility to multiply. X is used in multiplication problems. So as funny as it sounds, that's my best guess for the second question.

I don't ship much, actually. I mean, I do, but they're not so out-of-whack like some of the demented ships I've seen really scary art for on deviantART. I mean, first thing's first... if you're going to make a fanship, at least have it make sense. I mean, characters who hate each other... yeah, that's not going to work out. #petpeeves

I'm typically a ZeLinker (if you don't know, that's... Link x Zelda), because I think the crossover through social classes is kind of cute. And most-likely a forbidden kind of romance that could definitely keep them from actually pairing up in most of the games where Zelda is a fully-fledged princess and Link is just your typical commoner. Somewhat a Romeo and Juliet kind of thing, hahaha. There are a few exceptions for particular games, where I think Link (or Zelda) should be paired with someone else--namely Link x Midna in Twilight Princess, but that is also another ship that I find touching in the same sense that they really can't be together, though there is definitely some sort of emotion there, which could be further implied by the fan's [typically greatly disturbed] imagination.

Ilia x Epona is a hot ship. Totes. I love Lawrencium (Locke) for finally writing that up for April Fools' Day. <3

Cawlin x Phoeni because Cawlin was a bully and doesn't deserve anything better than to be caressed in his sleep by a disembodied hand ghost who has a fetish for toilet paper.

Scrapper x Fi because so freaking adorable. Like Lutetium (Shadsie) said, it really reminded me of Wall•E and Eve in a bizarre kind of way. Which is actually really coincidental, because long before Skyward Sword was released, I already associated Fi with Eve. So I was making Fi x Wall•E jokes. And then I met Scrapper and I was like "omg, holy crap, they're perfect!" <3

Lord Ghirahim x Lady Gaga because inside jokes. I don't care if Lady Gaga isn't a Zelda character. She very well could be. It was initially because they're both creepy and flamboyant, and teehee, Lady and Lord... but then I realized they could, like, switch gender-roles and... xtrusion delusion, so hilarious. x)

Hylia x Demise because illogically hilarious. Half mockery of the rabid fangirls who make even scarier ships, half "What if Demise isn't really evil, just heart-broken?", this is kind of just for kicks and giggles. And to act as an exception to my pet peeve. :right:

Medli x Komali because adorable.

I feel like I am forgetting a few. And...why are the majority of these Skyward Sword ships? Maybe Nintendo just did a spectacular job at characterization in that installment or something... ;/

Oh! I knew I was forgetting one! Ganon x Amanda (Lol, that's not it...)

...I still know I'm forgetting some. Why can't I recall? Rats. I guess I'll just resort to editing this here post if they suddenly come to me... =/

Strangely enough, I think Scrapper's odd nickname might be more "archaic" than necessarily a declaration of Link's height disadvantages. I browse TV Tropes too much and they have a list of old tropes used in literature and old radio and movies that have been completely forgotten with the times. (The "Forgotten Tropes" ) and one of them regards short pants and maturity. Apparently, back in, like, the 20s and stuff, poorer families dressed their young boys in shorts all the time because long pants were expensive and "growing out of your short pants" meant that you were mature enough to be trusted with nice things. It may be reaching, but maybe someone at Nintendo or the translators of the game knew of this old trope and decided to use it to denote Scrapper's age - he's calling Link "still a kid." He doesn't wish to serve a callow youth. He is not programmed "to serve children."

Or it could be because Link is short for a young man.

.....

Ah! Here it is! Under "Real Life." It's not a linked trope proper, but here is the quote from the page:

•"Big boy pants." It used to be a rite of passage for a child to start wearing long pants and skirts. Younger children wore short pants and skirts so that the material would not be worn out during playtime. Once you were old enough, you were trusted to wear long pants.
◦The variant about young girls wearing short skirts makes a significant appearance in Fingersmith.
◦This trope is far for being forgotten in manga and is used mostly for school uniforms like in Shinkuu Yuusetsu.

Mandym x Ganon.
Wait, no Mandym isn't in any Zelda gaes...uh...
LinkxSandwich and LinkxZelda. But only in ST. There was nothing in SS, or anywhere else except maybe WW, but it was more Tetra there.

Midna and Link, partially because of the tragedy in their feelings and the little details earlier on that most overlook.
During the Lanayru Twilight, there is a momnet when you fly a Twili Froom, howver you spell that, across a long canyonlike passage. If you hit soemthing and fall, the screen will go dark and Midna will say "Hey...Careful now... What do you say, do you wnat to try again?", as if she actually cares taht I might have gotten hurt on the fall to the river below. Before that, in the Goron Mines after you defeat Fyrus, she acts like she might care when she tells you about Zant, but ruined that when you enter the Lanayru Twilight by being cruel about Ilia. After the Lakebed Temple, she apologizes for treating Link like a tool, and when Zant appears and injures him, she ges straight to Link's side, and fights off Zant, if only verbally. When you talk to Zeda, you were trying to go heal her, but she only asks Zelda how to save you. She doesn't care about her own safety, and seeing that, Zelda makes the ultimate sacrifice for her. Before the Arbiter's Grounds, as you enter the desert, she shows distress about her identity as a Twili and asks if Link will still come with her to the mirror. He says yes, but what really got me ther was that Midna put her hand on his cheek sadly. I figures she had cared earler, btu when this happened, I said to myself "Yep. She loves him." Or at least cared a great deal. I haven't actually played past that, but others stated the reasons at the very end, and I knew how it ended anyway. So.
How do I know about that? I haven't finished it!

I believe so. I think I speak for most of us when I say that Link would want any girl BUT Ruto. She's WAY too clingy.

Well I personally liked Ruto, she was adorable.
I just think she's getting less love being a fish babe. But thats points from me, and if you guys don't find that attractive then there is something seriously right with you.
