Hey all.

Like many of you, I'm head over heels in love with BoTW. Everything about it looks super promising and I can't wait til it finally comes out.

When the game was shown off at E3 however, one thing I wasn't all that keen on was the name, Breath of the Wild.

I understand the reasoning behind the name, I watched then they explained that it had to do with making the land the central theme for the game. Still, I can't help be a bit "eh" about the name. In fact, i've been pretty "eh" about the names for the other recent main console zelda games. Was never too keen on Twilight Princess or Skyward sword either. But that's me getting off topic.

To me, when I say a word in my head I unconsciously see an image associated with that word. "Of the wild" is fine, I can definitely picture rolling hills and vast landscapes there. But "breath?" To me, breath is kind of a gross word. Not only does the word sound just kind of weird, but it makes me think of... bad breath. Like, halitosis. Not a good moniker for possibly the best Zelda game we've had for a while, in my opinion.

That said, I know plenty of people who like the name fine and don't have that association. I've heard people say how "breath" makes them think of life, wind, etc. Which is cool, I can understand that reasoning.

Anyway, i'm just curious about you guys' opinions. Do you like the name? Would you prefer it to be something else? Does it even really matter? Make your thoughts known!

With most games like Twilight Princess or Majoras Mask, the name actually has something to do with the main story or an important item. Even with Skyward Sword which unfortunately sounds like some kind of gay porno, the main focus of the game is the sword. But this time around I just dont see the wilds breath actually having any real significance to the story.

Well, Breath of the Wind is a good alternative. I mean everyone is prety much calling it that already...

Yeah, I've kind of slipped up and called it that too. To me it sounds... slightly? better than breath of the wild, but also I kind of get that same association problem. Breath of the wind kind of makes me think of farts. Wind waker had the same problem. XD

It's not terrible, I like that it describes the setting and not just an item or character like usual. I thought that titles that only describe an item you get was kind of lazy.

Before I mostly liked A Link Between Worlds since it did the same thing, describe the setting or the storyline of the game.

Honestly, I think Breath Of The Wild will work as one of the best Zelda titles of all time. It's showing how the franchise is going in a fresh new direction, almost like it's giving us a breath of fresh air.

I actually think it's a really cool name; it's a different way of naming Zelda titles than the more traditional way of picking an item, and doesn't go down the route of naming it after a character like Twilight Princess, although admittedly I think that TP is my favourite name of an existing Zelda game. Breath of the Wild sounds fun, it gives you a feel of the enormous overworld we're already expecting to see, and also gives you an idea of the direction of the game- I mean this one involves cooking, some sort of camping or whatever- and this fits perfectly.

I agree with Mike on this, I think the title refer to the open world (breath) and the new system like a mmo rpg game for the "wild" I think it's a great title, maybe not the best but we will see when the game will be out ^^

I like the title. 'Breath of the Wild' makes it sound like the wild world youre about to jump into is a living breathing one, full of life and dynamic weather.

Though on the flip side it does feel a little generic, i've always found Zelda titles intriguing when theyre named after something or someone like Twilight Princess or Ocarina of Time, they make me wonder about identities and powers of the people and items in question... but Breath of the Wild doesnt have that.

Still a cool title though and i probably couldnt come up with a better or as suitable a title for the game but at least BotW didnt follow the title tradition because we could have had these;

The Legend of Zelda: The Sheikah Slate

The Legend of Zelda: Guardians

The Legend of Zelda: Open Your Eyes

The Legend of Zelda: Where the **** does this go in the timeline??

BotW has that totally. It's all about a thing. That thing is the concept of the Wild. The title tells you that you (Link) will be manipulating your environment and that's the main aim of the game. The tablet powers and how link uses the weapons he finds proves this.

Yeah, i agree but the 'wild' is such a broad term, it encompasses the entirety of the wild in all forms, whereas the likes of OoT and TP have a focus just on one thing/person.

Its the same both ways its just to me BotW has such a broad focus whereas other titles are focused one specfic thing.

Like Twilight Princess (which specifies a specific character) isnt called- Zelda: The Shadow Invasion, which is a much broader term.

That was my point. I just prefer the titles focused on specific elements rather than the broader elements encompassed under a single banner.

I agree with your points 100% and that makes sense.

I was more calling it "the wild". Just like in the the cartoon movie called The Wild

They all want to leave their confines and go back to the wilderness. Link was released from hibernation back into the wild. In the same way that a rehabilitated animal is released back into the wild. The wild is totally a thing though. Yeah it's more abstract though. All the other main Zelda games are named after a thing, a person or Link himself.
