Drawing in the big book again today. This time it's another Sitri Beldine.

sitri beldine sketch 9-2-24.jpg

Really happy with how this turned out. I had a hard time nailing the expression but I think I did it well. My only gripe is that she looks older than she should. I think it's the marks under her eyes, it's supposed to look like she's been crying but they kinda read as age lines to my eyes, I dunno. I think the angle on her chin and jawline is making it look sharper than it should, too. Regardless, I'm pleased. I want to do another Zoie and a proper Kuudo next.

To me she looks sad and it is an amazing picture you are a great artist.

Another one. I swear, the big book is magic. Everything I draw in it turns out better than in the smaller sketchbooks. Guess the materials you work with shouldn't be overlooked...

kuudo bei sketch 9-10-24.jpg

This time, it's Kuudo, another character introduced in The Concerto of Spirits. I'm suuuuuper happy with her. I nailed the expression I was going for and her hair buns did not take as much difficulty as I was expecting them to. So glad I got those pens. Lining the sketch with ink and then shading in pencil. is soooooooo sososo good. mmmmf. love it.

I've been trying to draw a character in between each chapter I post, kind of. Next time I want to draw Zoie. As for Kuudo here, she's going to continue to be largely important in the future of my writing, so I hope you enjoy the art and look forward to more of her!

As promised, here's a brand new Zoie from The Concerto of Spirits.

zoie vanaheit sketch in ink 9-14-24.jpg

He's... decent. I'm not as happy with him as that Kuudo from last time, but he's still the best Zoie I've drawn yet. His hair is ridiculously hard to get right... And I think I'm not used to drawing such angular shapes for the eyes and such, which I think is part of why I'm kind of not thrilled with it. Still, I think I nailed his character's vibe. He looks like Zoie is supposed to look.

Another one. I wasn't satisfied after that Zoie so I kept going and drew a new Morgan Burgundy, the future lead of my upcoming Zelda fics (plural).

morgan burgundy sketch with ink 9-14-24.jpg

Now THIS is more like it. This is the kind of quality I was shooting for. I'm extremely pleased with this. Not only did I get his face and expression the way I wanted them to be, I even got his clothes the way I wanted them. Hell yeah.

I also scanned a copy of him before I shaded him, so maybe I can try doing some digital coloring on him some time. Maybe...

This whole process took me roughly 5-6 hours but I did it. I think I did the best I could with a computer mouse in gimp. This is the first time I digitally colored something in five years... I can't say I particularly want to do it again lol but hey, Morgan is gonna be the face of my Aurum Flow series from now on, so I think he deserved the extra attention and effort.

Had a lot of time to draw at work today since we had our art therapist visiting.

aoife winzel sketch 10-24-24.jpg
A quick Aoife sketch to warm up with. Her face seems... awfully round.
eow zelda sketch 10-24-24.jpg
EoW Zelda. I was gonna draw her hair and ears too but I gave up and just gave her the hood. Then I made her sad to practice expressions. She's goin thru it in the early game...
mikhaeyla abington sketch 10-24-24.jpg
Redrew that last Mikhaeyla for some more angle practice. Some of the proportions are a bit wonky but I like it.
morgan burgundy sketch 10-24-24.jpg
And lastly we have another Morgan, from an angle that I really struggle with. And boy did I struggle... But that's why I wanted to practice it.

The Concerto of Spirits may be over, but that didn't stop me from drawing another one of its characters; here's Ceres Achenel.

ceres achenel sketch 10-29-24.jpg

Think she came out pretty good. I wanted to set her design in stone, as well as give her a surname, since we just might see her again in the future... :eyes: I want to try my hand at Varuna and Albion eventually, too.

Last thursday (Halloween, in fact!) our art therapist holding her class meant I got more time to draw again. I think that's gonna be my new time slot to try and keep the rust off, like art class was with my kiddos last year. Here's what I did that day:

totk zelda angle practice 10-31-24.jpg
TotK Zelda to practice angles. I think it came out decent... I guess...

ceres achenel action pose practice 10-31-24.jpg
Then I did another Ceres, using a Granblue art as a pose reference. This was hard... but that's why I'm practicing.

morgan burgundy angle practice 10-31-24.jpg
and here's another Morgan at yet another angle that's hard for me. I ripped his cheek a bit while erasing... explodes

And then today... I went back to the good ol faithful Azure and Silvia pairing and did a manga panel redraw.

azure and silvia rare marriage manga panel redraw 11-3-24.jpg

It felt good to return to them for the first time in a while. This one was a lot of fun. Helped with angle practice, expression practice, and even hand practice which I don't do often! Really happy with this.

Not to spam your thread but these are all great, a bigger sketchpad can really do wonders. The digital render of Morgan is my favorite, red-tipped black gotta be my favorite non-natural color, especially in a 2D environment.

Couple more today.

silvia escandor-soleil sketch 11-4-24.jpg

Another Silvia, trying out some pose and hand practice. I think it turned out well.

aoife winzel angle practice 11-4-24.jpg

And another Aoife. She's always fun to draw. Pose and angle practice again. I'm really trying to push myself to do more than constant 3/4th angle portraits all the time now. I've just been searching "anime pose reference" on google and scrolling until I find inspiration, but hey, whatever works.

(side note: when i tried that pose for myself, i hurt my neck a bit. she might be bent a little too far back. sorry aoife.)
