Alien Romulus
Rating: 8 out 10
I would say it is my third favorite after Alien and Aliens. It restores The Xenomorph to how I prefer the creature, The Perfect Organsm from Hell. There are a lot of call backs that I agree should have been abridged or removed. The inclusion of one character felt unnecessary and took me out of the film for a moment, but what Romulus does right outweighs the flaws imho. I appreciate the movie feels grand like movies use to in terms of scale, attention to detail, lore building, action, effects, and storytelling.
The truth is the Alien films are connected to ancient Sumerian and Greek Myths (Prometheus in particular), just as Star Wars is Arthurian, and Star Trek Oddessian. I love when the old legends are tied to the future and technology, the blend of history and a new frontier keeps it fresh, and balanced.
The Final Act will no doubt be criticized, though I believe it to be a cleaver way of bridging the prequel films to the main franchise.
I highly recommend if you are Alien fan you see it. If you have not seen any of the Alien films, this may be good entry point yo the franchise, especially for younger gens.
