A few things to think on, here.

When someone says the will do A, if they are presented with B, then act as though B doesn't exist when it is presented; they loose credibility. If you aren't going to do the thing, just be honest from the start.

Insisting something is categorically bad, when others like it, is not a reflection on the thing, but on the person who insists that it's all bad. Good and bad are more a mater of taste. Insisting that one's personal taste is the baseline for everyone else shows a lack of basic empathy.

Missing something, like a story element, is not a big deal. Denying that the element exists, after being informed about it, is a problem. It damages your argument and your credibility. The ability to change a stance when new information is provided is a sign of a logical mind.

Just because someone doesn't think something is all bad, does not mean they think it's all good. Falling into a tribal "us vs. them" mindset restricts the development of ideas, causes division, and often leads to harmful language.

Overcoming something said to be impossible is an extremely common story trope. It doesn't diminish the sacrifice. It doesn't cheapen the story. It's a fairly basic method of increasing tension.

Time manipulation has always been, and will always be, just by the nature of it's existence, a way to make the impossible possible.
