Round 3 voting has now closed. Round 4 voting is now open.

Round 3 itself will consist of several sub-rounds. In Round 3, I will present the tournament bracket (single elimination NCAA-style tournament, see spoiler below) with correct seed placement as well as an info bank giving some basic details (ranks, achievements, tale of the tape, etc) about each of the 20 competitors to help you vote. ZD members will vote in each round for who they think will win each current battle in the round. At the end of each sub-round, I will tally the votes (each ZD member gets 1 vote for each battle in the round) and the martial arts figures with the most votes will move on to the next round in the bracket (ties will be decided by the higher seed). This will continue until the Championship Battle when the winner (as well as the 3rd place bronze competitor) will be decided.

The Round 3 results are below:

In the M-Battle of Round 3, Bruce Lee decimated Miyamoto Musashi in one of the most anticipated battles of the tournament, winning 9-0. Musashi’s fancy Kenjutsu handwork fell embarrassingly short when he faced off against the Dragon and his utter mastery of all things martial arts. Lee expertly blocked a series of rapid-fire strikes from Musashi right out of the gate, only to respond with a flurry of his own followed by a flying knee that knocked our Samurai hero out before he knew what hit him.

In the N-Battle of Round 3, Jet Li got the upper hand on Rocky Marciano, winning 6-3. In one of the best fights UMAT has seen, Kung Fu master Jet Li and boxing superman Rocky Marciano went head to head in one of the greatest exhibitions of striking martial arts ever seen. Marciano’s incredible boxing skills gave Jet Li a force to be reckoned with, but Li’s sheer mastery over the several kinds of Kung Fu as well as his impressive kicking advantage resulted in a bloodied and dazed Marciano by the end of the match. The judges ruled the battle in favor of Li – unanimous decision.

In the O-Battle of Round 3, Jackie Chan overcame Royce Gracie in another spectacular fight, winning 5-3. Gracie’s Jiu-jitsu proved to throw Chan off his game when the match started, but Chan surprised the grappler with an amazing array of Hapkido kicks on the floor before Gracie could solidify the take down. In the second round, Chan’s vicious and quick kicks along with his drunken boxing dazed and confused our Brazilian brawler, which opened up the perfect opportunity for Chan to finish him off with a one-two combo.

In the P-Battle of Round 3, Anderson Silva proved to be too much for his personal hero Muhammad Ali, winning the battle 6-3. Ali’s boxing and trash talking just wasn’t enough in this veritable blow-out, as Silva’s Muay Thai kicks and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu took the Greatest apart in a fight that didn’t give Ali much opportunity to respond. Ali couldn’t land a punch due to the Spider’s impressive dodge work. The fight ended in a bloody TKO.

Congratulations to Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Jackie Chan, and Anderson Silva. Their Round 4 opponents will test them like never before.

The battles continue! Round 4 of the actual UMAT tournament starts now and will be open for 24 hours. Round 4 consists of the following battles:

In Battle Q, we have 1 seed Bruce Lee vs. 4 seed Jet Li.
In Battle R, we have 9 seed Jackie Chan vs. 12 seed Anderson Silva.

This project chooses winners by democracy. You can vote 1 time for each battle in each round. Round 4 consists of 2 different battles, so that means you may vote two times in Round 4; one time for each battle (Q and R). Please post your votes in a comment like this as an example:

Example

Q Battle = [insert winner’s name]
R Battle = [insert winner’s name]

End of Example

The martial artists that receive most votes in their specific fight will move onto the next and final round. Ties will be decided by the higher seed.

Round 3 continues (Round 4 of the tournament itself begins), or voting to help decide who will move into the Championship Battle of the tournament, begins now and will close on 2:00 am United States EST on April 2, 2014. Vote so your favorite has a better chance of winning! This round is now over.

The Round 4 results are below:

In the Q-Battle of Round 4, Bruce Lee completely destroyed Jet Li in one of the most surprising blowouts of the tournament, winning 10-0. Lee’s command of all things martial arts gave Jet Li a fight like he’d never faced before; combining all his prowess into the most vicious demolition of an opponent seen yet. Only a fool would claim Jet Li to be anything less than a master of Kung Fu, but his skills were simply not on Bruce’s level. The Dragon gave Li a beating that mirrored his movies. So far the Dragon has been unstoppable.

In the R-Battle of Round 4, Jackie Chan beat MMA superstar Anderson Silva in a tough fight, winning 6-4. The Drunken Master’s unorthodox Kung Fu proved to throw the Spider off his game early on, but Silva kept coming back in force. Silva fought very well in the first 3 rounds using his typical and incredible mixed martial arts skills and gave Chan a clear run for his money, but in the fourth round of the bout, Chan used a combo of kicks and drunken boxing to get through Silva’s defense; knocking him out only slightly, but enough for a TKO. So far Jackie Chan has been unstoppable.

Congratulations to Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan. The Championship Battle is set to go!

The battles continue! Round 5 of the actual UMAT tournament starts now and will be open for 24 hours. Round 5 consists of the following battles:

In the Championship Battle, we have 1 seed Bruce Lee vs. 9 seed Jackie Chan.
In the Bronze Battle, we have 4 seed Jet Li vs. 12 seed Anderson Silva.
