The origin of the Minish

And by making the game "realistic" they removed the presence of Minish, that's all. They removed their presence by removing the items in grass, because the Minish were a logic explanation for this and it wasn't unreallistic in the game universe.
Probably they didn't really thought of the Minish when making those gameplay decisions, but you have to consider that this is this "general breaking gameplay boundaries" which removed the Minish, as a side effect.

How did they remove the entire presence of the Minish? I just pointed out two completely logical cases where they could have appeared.

After playing the minish cap I thought the backstory of the picori was really neat and a fun way of explaining why you find rupees under rocks or when your cut grass. I was under the impression they are in every game because of this, you just don't see them because link doesn't shrink down to their size/world.

I guess we will have to wait and see where BOTW falls in the timeline. Perhaps it will be before SS and before the picori existed.
