Adding my two cents on Conquest's plot, my major issue with it is that you don't really do what Nintendo originally advertised. You don't do much political restructuring, there's really dumb plot contrivances that start around Chapter 15 and there's very blatant Hoshido bias in Conquest. Basically, if you picked Nohr, the game will tell you "You picked the wrong path."

But in all honesty, out of the three stories Fates had to offer, Awakening had the better story. Awakening. Something that I thought I'd never say. And something more of a personal gripe, but man, did the voice acting and direction both take a major step backward.

is Fire Emblem: Conquest really that difficult? I'm hearing it's extremely unforgiving.

How do these games compare to Fire Emblem: Awakening. I still haven't played a Fire Emblem game all the way through, and I wonder if it's worth getting Awakening and beating it before getting Fates.
To put things into perspective, Lunatic Birthright is easier than Conquest Hard. That shouldn't make any sense, but it does -- the map design and enemy placement in Conquest is really REALLY good, with the player having to work around BS skills (especially in the ninja rape cave of CH17) in order to survive. Tons of different mission objectives too, while Birthright is mainly ROUT THE ENEMY.

Well you DO reform the country. It just doesn't feel like it is -- you're defying Gooron's orders all the way through. Also, Nohr obviously is the wrong country - what country is "right" when they are merciless folks aiming for glory above all else?

so i planned on getting birthright, would you guys think its fine that i choose the hard difficulty and not experience too much frustration?
Yeah, you won't experience much because enemies come in with single digit stats up til CH13, and skills rarely appear in hoshido.

I beat Birthright in three days and watched Owen play Revelation and another buddy of mine play Conquest an and am honestly having mixed feelings about all of them. I am not getting any enjoyment out of playing this, it feels like an obligation. Also, the voice acting is a step down from Awakenings and many, many localization changes are the dumbest **** **** I've seen in years, especially with the second gen characters.
I don't know.
I like the gameplay, but grinding is a pain in the ass. I played on Hard Casual to get through the story in one weekend, so I'll start a male profile and play on classic to see if there's any difference. All I can say for sure is that Takumi is obviously intended to be the "main" character other than you and Azura. And I like that.
... I just...
I don't know. I am kinda let down. It just doesn't feel like a good experience.

Does anyone else constantly get 1xp no matter what they do/kill? This happens to my main alot even though he's not my most powerful character.

Update: apparently, Nintendo didn't even bother to change the ONE story element I wanted them to.

Without spoilers: DO NOT MARRY AZURA

It doesn't effect the gameplay or plot at all...

Just... don't.

Good job TREEHOUSE.

Pshhhhh Azura?
It's either Hana or Mozu for me.

I do agree with you that the voice acting can be spotty at times. It has some rough patches.

Overall, I'm a gameplay guy, so I could not be any happier with Fates. It's so ****ing good.

It depends. Really, you should be spreading the XP to all of your team. However, if you maybe used a master seal early, than that would kill your do growth right there.

So the Fandom has made patches for both Dual Audio AND the original translations for the American release. I think my problems are solved.

So, difficulty aside, is it better to play conquest or birthright first?

Better to play Birthright first. It has the best story, but the worst gameplay of the three routes. Then do Conquest (worst story, best gameplay), then if you are willing to shell an extra $20, play Revelation (second worst story, OKish gameplay)

Have you even played Revelation? I heard it has the best story, but I thought only special people could play it.

JPN version yes. I can't say much about the story because it requires you to play b and c first. For the NA version, only people who own the SE can play it currently.

I've heard that revelations has the best story. But only after the context of playing birthright and revelations before it.
