I realized in about minutes, after i thought about where it could possibly go, and throughout the whole game, i was wondering, why the heck is this statue here? So it came to my mind, becuase i knew it had to be there for a reason.

This part of the game really stumped me. I had no clue what the damn thing was; in fact, I think I went to Lanayru Desert to check around there to see if I could come up with anything. When I finally realized it was the missing eye I lol'd so much at Nintendo's epic troll.

Good one Nintendo

Oh dear, it's been a while since anybody's posted...

Sorry if I didn't comment sooner, I just now found this.
I loved this part in the game. And yes I figured it out within a minute or so of getting the stone. But that was only because I struggled immensely with another part of the game earlier on.

I remembered that old man commenting on the missing eye in the bird statue, as it seemed a very weird thing to point out. But obviously I didn't think anything of it at the time. Later on I had the hardest time figuring out what to do to find that little kid who was at Betreaux's place (seriously I was stuck for like an hour). Then I got the idea to fly over to the Lumpy Pumpkin, and lo and behold that same old guy said to go to the graveyard. He was the only person who could help me in that time of need, so I remembered him.

Once I got the Stone of Trials, rather than roaming around town for another hour like last time I stopped and thought: "Who's been helpful to me so far.... Headmaster Gaepora, Kuriel's father, Pipit, the owner of the Lumpy Pumpkin, the old guy by the statue...
THE STATUE! IT'S THE FREAKING STATUE!!!"

So yeah that's how I figured it out.

My knowledge was immediate. For, like you, original poster, TV Tropes has ruined my life. I can pick out the plot points of anything. It wasn't exactly well-hidden. Anytime in Zelda games in general, if you meet a statue with a missing eye or a missing nostril or something, you are going to find a McGuffin to cram in there to further some point of your journey.

I knew it immediately, I even tried some items to make the eye appear. (I thought it was like blowing up the eyes in Dodongo's Cavern x-D)
Okay, I know that wasn't smart, that man made clear enough that the eye was missing, but I'm just curious.
So when I finally found the stone I knew immediately where to go.
