Sub or Dub? :bubsy:

Are there any dubs out there that beat the sub?

Sub. I like to experience media in the language it was made in. I like the sound of different languages so if there is a sub option I take it.

Both. I don't mind dubs, Funimation consistently does fantastic dubbing work. And I have no issue with watching subs if there isn't a dub yet or if something is still airing.

There are very, very few dubs that are better than subs. But many subs that are better than dubs. The voice acting in subs is how the director saw it, in dubs it's a disaster half the time. Also, they can't pronounce any of the words and names. Honorifics and other things that are part of the japanese language also don't translate to dubs. Like, calling someone by their last name when you don't know them super well, or a variety of other things. It's simply better to watch something the way it was supposed to be originally. I also can't stand seeing words that don't match the mouths of the people talking. It drives me insane.

Either is typically fine. Totoro was dubbed and it was by the Fanning sisters, I love that version.

Dubs. I prefer to hear it in my own language while I'm watching it. Usually I watchh it with both because I like reading subs.
Sometimes I will watch the original with neither afterwards.

I'm torn on this.
A lot of shows are much better when watched with Subs, but there are some shows that have excellent Dubs.

Subs all the way. I can't watch Dubs. They normally aren't that great, and the ones that are decent are for animes I don't watch. Plus, I don't mind having to read the dialogue, and it all sounds more... authentic.

I prefer sub myself too. Not only for the same reasons as ZD's very own sweatheart Jim Jam but, it's also nice to actually hear voice actors I'm not familiar with. I know many people like funimation dubs but I hate the fact that I recognise Dragonball character voices in a few dubs, it throws it off for me a bit. I hate the fact that Ryu in Street fighter IV and V is adult Gohan.

Dubs are superior 99% of the time simply because I can understand the language. Dubs only truly get bad when you get WE'VE GOT TROUBLE tier voice acting, or when they start using JPN terms like in the Clannad dub (KOTORI CHAUN or whatever the hell Tomoya said).

That being said, I do enjoy a good submarine sandwich from time to time.

Sub it, noob. The emotion is better and most dubs are ****e.

My only exceptions are studio Ghibili films and neon evangeleon and only because I've been watching both since five and I get really bad cognitive dissonance from trying to watch them with subs.

I prefer dubs, because I can actually understand it as it's happening. Maybe if I spoke Japanese I might like sub better, but because I don't it makes such a disconnect from what's happening, that subs don't work for me.

Depends on the show. I prefer dubs if they're good, but there are some shows that just wouldn't work in English no matter how well done the dub is, Gintama being a prime example

Neither, I know Japanese.

...Alright, if it is a must that I have to make my decision, subtitles. My reason is simply because I want to see how they'd translate/interpret the original lines into English or Spanish. It usually gets me cracking when I see a blatant error, obscenity, or a joke that's been replaced to something that makes sense in English but still conveys the originally intended message.

On the other hand, I enjoy the Japanese subtitles for the Grand Theft Auto video game series simply because of its queer localization inspired by and riddled with bad language.
