It has a bit more blood and gore than Oblivion, so I' not so sure. 12 year-olds these days still play a alot of gory games, this being no exception. I guess all you can do right now is try to convince your mom.

I don't know... I know when I have kids that they're not going to be playing games like COD or Elder Scrolls until I deem them mature enough which probably won't be until 14 or 16

The age appropriateness is whatever your parents say. You're twelve, shouldn't be playing any TES game by ESRB suggestions. So, whatever your parents say.

Yes, but my mom thinks that since it's rated M that it is a terrible game with absolutely no good potential whatsoever. She's almost refusing to even have a look at it just because of the rating. Now all my friends get to play it while I sit here trying to make do with Super Mario 3D Land. :(

You should be able to. No offense, but if you're 12 and you get nightmares from playing this game, then you get scared pretty easily. A little blood and gore isn't scary. I would probably rate Skyrim a E10. And i'm 12 too.

The only really bad thing I've seen in Skyrim is a decapitation. Which was bad, but otherwise, not THAT bad of a game.

I'm 14 and not allowed to play any M games. It annoys me because I really want to play Skyrim, Assassin's Creed, and others. I don't really agree with 12-year-olds play M games, though, but that's just me.

If you've played Oblivion then I think you should be able to play Skyrim if the only difference between them is that Skyrim has more blood and gore.

Outside of just video games do your parents let you go to R rated movies if you do then they should let you play rated M depending on the reasons why it got the M rating.
