I don't know how it took me this long to realize it, but the reason I hate the shrines and divine beasts is because of how sterile and alien they are. They don't have any personality, they don't have any thematics to them, there's nothing important about them whatsoever. Even the music being so otherworldly reinforces the fact that the shrines and beasts don't really belong in Hyrule
It's less of an issue in elden ring where even though the legacy dungeons and caves are still somewhat flavorless, they do fit in with the world of the Lands Between and they still have some kind of theme or identity, like Raya Lucaria being a magic school or mt gelmir being a volcano
While I hate this from a "what zelda is, was, and should be" perspective, it makes me wonder if the otherworldly aspect of the shrines will be elaborated on in botw2 (that's just a better acronym I'm sorry) and if they'll actually make it something that has narrative importance cause otherwise it's a pretty big fail
