Spoiler General Kid Icarus: Uprising Discussion

A Link In Time

To Overcome Harder Challenges
ZD Legend
I remember some thread about this game from awhile back but I felt the need to serve it some justice with a proper listing of facts and trailers. :P

Kid Icarus: Uprising releases on March 23 in North America and a day earlier in Japan.

The game features:

*The return of Nintendo's NES and Game Boy era-Pit!
*A new antagonist in the form of Dark Pit and the return of Medusa.
*Magnus as a supporting character.
*A plethora of boss battles.
*Variety of weapons with upgrades.
*Rich voice acting.
*AR Compatibility.
*3 vs. 3 (6 player) online battle mode.
*Circle Pad Pro Compatibility.
*North American preorders awarded free copy of 3D Classics: Kid Icarus.
*Vehicles such as Exo Tank.

Here's a bit of a press release from Nintendo:

Introduction: The game's story begins with the return of the dark goddess Medusa and her Underworld Army. With the help of Palutena, goddess of light and guardian of the human race, the heroic angel Pit must combat the forces of darkness as he battles Medusa and her minions by air and by land.

Fiend's Cauldron: The Fiend's Cauldron is an incredible new system that allows players to customize their play experience by adjusting the intensity level. Intensity ranges from 0.0 - 9.0 for each individual Chapter. As the intensity increases, players will be able to earn more Hearts and more powerful weapon drops from defeated enemies. Hearts also can be used to purchase new weapons. The standard intensity setting is 2.0, but players can precisely adjust it by increments of 0.1. In order to increase the intensity, players must bet by placing an increasing number of Hearts into the Fiend's Cauldron. If the player is defeated during the Chapter, some Hearts will be lost and the intensity will be lowered.

Weapons: A wide variety of collectible weapons offers an extraordinary amount of replay value. With nine different categories of weapons, ranging from Bows to Claws, players can learn the unique characteristics of each weapon and determine which is best suited for each battle and their style of play.

Vehicles: During certain parts of his adventure, Pit will have access to special vehicles such as the Exo Tank. Pit can use the tank's powerful drift ability to boost over jumps or defeat enemies with the tank's ramming horn.

Stand: Kid Icarus: Uprising uses a control scheme designed to fit the game's unique blend of flight, shooting and melee combat, and offers tremendous precision and depth for dedicated players. The left hand uses the Circle Pad while the right hand uses the stylus. Every copy of the game will come with a free stand that holds the Nintendo 3DS at an angle above any flat surface, providing players with a new kind of gaming experience.

Circle Pad Pro: Kid Icarus: Uprising is compatible with the Circle Pad Pro accessory, offering an alternate control scheme for left-handed players. With the Circle Pad Pro, players hold the stylus in their left hand and use the Circle Pad with their right hand.

I need to get a 3DS for this and other titles...or if only for this. Fluid gameplay, truly rich voice-acting (though it befits the mechanics of this game over Zelda), consistent action, amazing weaponry upgrades, epic soundtrack so far, massive enemy fights...dare I say this soars even beyond the limits of Zelda? In some, but not all, cases. All in all, this appears to be a tremendous resuscitation of a series that's sure to maintain flight for several generations.

Nintendo of America is honoring preorders of Kid Icarus: Uprising with a free copy of 3D Classics: Kid Icarus. I have updated the opening post with this information.

It's also worth noting that the difficulty of the game can be adjusted anywhere from 0.0 to 9.0. Each time you die the difficulty goes down by 1.0.

There are also a variety of items to use including Blades, Bows, Cannons, Arms, Claws, Palms, Staffs, Clubs and something called “Orbitars.” For clubs alone here are the many options: A Babel Club, a Halo Club, a Black Club, an Ore Club or a Skyscraper Club! Wowzers! :bleh:

And check out that last trailer in the Opening Post! It is completely new!

It seems amazing so far. i think they should have an overworld though, I haven't seen any. Maybe you can buy new weapons there, and potions. And I haven't seen his bow being used anywhere. Is it even in the game?

There are various weapons in the game including the bow, claws, drills, and more.

Also, the game is a rail shooter and therefore has no overworld.

I just cannot wait for Uprising! i have already pre-ordered it, and it blows my mind that it comes with 6 ar cards, a 3ds stand and a code for kid icuraus 3D classics! all for 40 bucks! can't wait till 23rd of march

The game is not a rail shooter. There are 3 parts to a level: Air combat (Which I admit is somewhat of a rail shooter), Ground combat (You go around killing people looking for the boss, i think) and finally the actuall Boss

No, air combat is a rail shooter, not somewhat. Ground combat is very limited in your movements and bosses also aren't all that common. Although I do admit you got me there. ;)

I pre-ordered the game some time ago, and if you must know, some areas have your flight pattern controlled and you just have to dodge and shoot or attack with whatever weapon you have equipped. Other flying stages, as shown in the TGS 2011 trailer, have Pit free-flying, and, in this case, dodging laser beams. The ground areas have you moving around freely and killing enemies. While in these areas, it is possible to slide on rails and shoot while sliding down them. The rail shooting areas are part of the ground stages.

I can't wait for this game. I've been waiting since it was announced for 3DS. It looks really good and I can't wait to go preorder it.

Hard to believe the first announced game for 3DS hasn't released yet, right?

That's what I was thinking. I thought it was going to be one of the first games released. I had money set aside for that, ocarina of time, and Starfox, but then it doesn't come out. At least it's coming out now though.
