Pieces of Heart are recurring items in The Legend of Zelda series. Link needs to collect four (five in Twilight Princess) in order to get a complete Heart Container. Each game has a different number of Pieces of Heart to be found, ranging from twelve in the original Link's Awakening to 52 in Majora's Mask. They are not rare, though some of them take a long time to acquire, such as the 50 Gold Skulltula Tokens required to get one of the Pieces of Heart in Ocarina of Time.
A Link to the Past

Pieces of Heart make their first appearance in A Link to the Past. A total of 24 pieces can be found in the game providing Link with 6 additional Heart Containers.
Link's Awakening
Link's Awakening (Game Boy) & Link's Awakening DX

Link's Awakening for Game Boy and Link's Awakening DX feature 12 pieces giving Link an additional 3 Heart Containers.
Link's Awakening (Nintendo Switch)

The Link's Awakening remake for Nintendo Switch has 32 Pieces of Heart, twenty more than the original version, giving Link an additional 8 Heart Containers.
Ocarina of Time

Ocarina of Time has 36 Pieces of Heart which will give Link an additional 9 Heart Containers.
Majora's Mask

Majora's Mask features 52 Pieces of Heart, the most seen in any Zelda game, providing Link with an additional 13 Heart Containers.
Oracle of Seasons & Oracle of Ages

Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages feature 12 pieces each providing Link with 3 additional Heart Containers in each game.
The Wind Waker

The Wind Waker contains 44 heart pieces giving Link an additional 11 Heart Containers.
The Minish Cap

The Minish Cap contains 44 heart pieces giving Link an additional 11 Heart Containers.
Twilight Princess

Unlike previous games, Twilight Princess requires 5 Pieces of Heart rather than 4 to complete a new Heart Container. The game features 45 heart pieces giving Link an additional 9 Heart Containers.
Skyward Sword

Skyward Sword returns to the previous format, requiring 4 Pieces of Heart to complete a new Heart Container. The game features 24 heart pieces giving Link an additional 6 Heart Containers.
A Link Between Worlds

A Link Between Worlds contains 28 heart pieces giving Link an additional 7 Heart Containers.
Breath of the Wild

Pieces of Heart are not available in Breath of the Wild, as they are replaced with Spirit Orbs, which give Link the choice of either Heart Containers or Stamina Vessels for each four. Four Spirit Orbs are given per Container, which is given by Goddess Statues across the various settlements of Hyrule.
Tears of the Kingdom

Like in Breath of the Wild, the Light of Blessing replace Pieces of Heart, and work in the same way as the Spirit Orbs.
Echoes of Wisdom
- Main article: Echoes of Wisdom Heart Pieces
Echoes of Wisdom contains 40 pieces of heart, giving Zelda an additional 10 Heart Containers.
