Purah is a Sheikah woman from Breath of the Wild, Age of Calamity, and Tears of the Kingdom.
Breath of the Wild
It's necessary to have talked to Impa at Kakariko Village in order to talk to Purah, as she'll otherwise tell Link to go back and talk to Impa.
Purah is a member of the Sheikah tribe, and one of only five located outside of Kakariko Village. She can be found in the Hateno Village at the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab where she develops Sheikah technology with Symin.[1]
Of the three Sheikah who experienced the Great Calamity, Purah is the oldest at 124, four years older than her both her fellow researcher Robbie and her younger sister Impa. Despite this, she has the appearance of a six year old, the result of an age reversal experiment which she details in her diary. Purah is responsible for the research which provided upgrades to several of the Sheikah Slate's runes. [2][3]
When Link first arrives at the Ancient Tech Lab, Purah immediately recognizes Link, as he has not changed in the last 100 years, but is surprised that Link doesn't remember her.[4][5] Purah is responsible for helping take Link to the Shrine of Resurrection and put him safely into the Slumber of Restoration.[6][7][8]
When asked about her young appearance, Purah immediately snaps back at Link, calling him rude for asking, although quickly realizing that it is only logical due to appearance that one would assume she was a child.[9] Purah will tell Link that now that he's back after 100 years, he must defeat Calamity Ganon and rescue the beloved Princess Zelda. First though, Link must restore functionality to the Sheikah Slate.[10] Purah will task Link to bring the Blue Flame from the Ancient Furnace in town. This will power the Guidance Stone, allowing her to restore Link's missing Runes.[11][12][13]
Purah guides Link to the Ancient Furnace, stating that it is right behind Reede's house and is visible from just outside the tech lab.[14] She advises Link to use a Torch and to light the village lanterns that are along the way. However, if it stars to rain, then just like a normal flame, the blue flame will go out.[15][16]
After carrying the Blue Flame to the Ancient Tech Lab and lighting the Furnace, the Guidance Stone will begin to react to Link's Sheikah Stone.[17][18][19] Purah will use the Guidance Stone to restore the Camera, Hyrule Compendium, and Album missing files.[20]
After restoring the Sheikah Slate, Purah asks Link to take a picture of her and then to show her.[21] This will give Purah the idea that since Princess Zelda often used the camera feature on the Sheikah Slate, she likely took all the pictures that were stored on the camera. Since Link was Zelda's appointed knight, it was likely that Link was present while these pictures were taken.[22] Purah suggests that Link return to Impa as she has a hunch that these pictures can be used to help Link restore his memory.[23]
After speaking with Purah, this will move forward with the Locked Mementos main quest. Additionally, she asks Link to bring her some Ancient Materials, which will unlock two new side quests, including Robbie's Research and Slated for Upgrades. She mentions that the ancient materials are not only useful to her, but also to Robbie, over at the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab.
Purah's bedroom can be found at the very top of the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab building. Despite her spending the entire day and night at the actual tech lab, she does have a full bedroom, complete with a bed and several bookcases. She also has a chalkboard filled with information from her research. Most notably, at the center of her room, Link can find Purah's Diary on a small table.

Slated For Upgrades

After restoring the Runes on the Sheikah Slate, this will also trigger the start of the Slated for Upgrades side quest. Purah will task Link in acquiring and bringing Ancient Materials to her, so she can upgrade some of Link's Runes.[24][25][26]
Rune | Items |
---|---|
Sheikah Sensor[27][28][29] | 3 Ancient Screws |
Remote Bomb[30][31][32] | 3 Ancient Shafts |
Stasis[33] | 3 Ancient Cores |
After upgrading the Sheikah Sensor +, Symin will call over to you, as he is greatly interested in the upgrade.[34][35] Talking to Symin will trigger the start of the Sunshroom Sensing quest.
Trivia
- Three lines are drawn on the floor of the Lab, implying that Symin and Purah are constantly bickering about each other's work spaces, dividing the lab with said lines. The line closest to Purah is the most faded one, dividing the lab roughly equally. Considering that Symin is now confined to a corner after the third line has been drawn implies that, in spite of being the messy one, Purah has had the upper hand every time, since her mess encompasses most of the lab.
- When the Hyrule Compendium is completed, Symin gives Link a picture depicting a beautiful woman of the Sheikah Tribe, which is implied to be Purah in her youth. It wouldn't be until Age of Calamity that it's shown that Purah was indeed remarkably beautiful.

"Eccentric Genius
A Sheikah researcher and Hyrule's foremost authority on ancient relics. She is Impa's older sister and Robbie's colleague. She is both brilliant and opinionated, and she tends to get carried away with her research."
Tears of the Kingdom
"The highest authority on ancient technology. She has served Princess Zelda's family for much of her life and has worked with the princess to research the Zonai civilization. Most recently, they started an investigation into the outbreak of gloom. She has used herself as a test subject in her experiments. Despite being over a century in age, she reversed her aging to the extreme and actually looked like a child not too long ago."
It is noted in Purah's Diary that she initially suggested the area Beneath Hyrule Castle be investigated after a stairway leading there was discovered. Princess Zelda readily accepted the task, which led to the events at the start of Tears of the Kingdom.
Crisis at Hyrule Castle
- Main article: Crisis at Hyrule Castle
Purah can be found at Lookout Landing, after Hyrule Castle rose into the sky during the Upheaval. She is the head of the Landing, using it to investigate the Gloom that has been appearing nearby. After Link arrives at the Lookout Landing, he is tasked with finding Purah. When Link initially speaks with her, he recounts the events that have happened so far. She believes that Princess Zelda is alive beneath Hyrule Castle, and asks Link to meetup with the search party at Hyrule Castle. This completes the previous main quest, To the Kingdom of Hyrule, and begins the new main quest, Crisis at Hyrule Castle.
After Link and Captain Hoz see Princess Zelda disappear at Hyrule Castle, Purah and Josha will help to activate the Skyview Towers. Purah suggests visiting the different parts of the Lookout Landing, including the Emergency Shelter, as well as Mubs's Shop to get some gear.[36][37][38][39][40][41]
At the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower, Purah and Josha activate the Skyview Towers located across Hyrule.[42][43][44] Link is shot into the Sky from the Lookout Landing Tower, where he uses the Purah Pad to form a map of Central Hyrule and the Sky above it. Purah notes that once a Skyview Tower is added to the Purah Pad, Link can travel between the registered Towers. She will also give Link a Paraglider, so he can gracefully glide back to the ground.[45][46][47]
Regional Phenomena
- Main article: Regional Phenomena
Purah asks Link to investigate the numerous disturbances across Hyrule since the Upheaval, while she remains at the Lookout Landing to look further into the chasms and ruins.[48][49] This begins the Regional Phenomena Main Quest. Josha and Purah will initially point Link in the direction of Rito Village, as there was a recent sighting of Priness Zelda.[50] Purah encourages Link to stop by find the editor to the Lucky Clover Gazette, who can be found near the entrance of Rito Village.[51]
After Link resolves a Phenomena, he can talk to Purah again, who will note that she has been hearing of Link's adventures. She encourages him to continue investigating the other issues across Hyrule.[52] If Link first completes the Regional Phenomena at Rito Village, then Purah guides Link towards Eldin to the northeast, as it is the closest.[53]
Once Link resolves all four Regional Phenomena, Purah is using her telescope to investigate reports of Zelda on Hyrule Castle. When Link arrives, a daytime Blood Moon suddenly appears, and Purah spots Zelda high up on the Castle grounds. Purah asks Link to find Zelda on the Castle, as she and the other soldiers are unable to reach it.
After Ganondorf's attack at Hyrule Castle, the Sages will confer with Purah and Link about what occurred. Purah realizes that there is still an unaccounted for sixth Sage from the story of the Imprisoning War. She asks the Sages to return to their lands and look for clues. Purah also asks Link to search for any undiscovered leads, which begins the Find the Fifth Sage Main Quest. Once Link finds the fifth Sage, Mineru, and finds the Master Sword, speaking to Purah again will complete this quest, as well as the Crisis at Hyrule Castle quest.
Purah ponders that Ganondorf would no longer be in Hyrule Castle or anywhere in Hyrule, and is likely to be located somewhere in the Depths. She suggests speaking with Josha for more clues about where he may be. This begins the Destroy Ganondorf Main Quest.
In a post-credits scene available after completing all Main Quests, Purah can be seen in the Sky with Link, Mineru, and the living Sages. She remarks that even with all their research into the Zonai, they were still completely unaware something like this existed in the Sky.

- ↑ "The Sheikah Slate you're using is the one Princess Zelda herself used 100 years ago. Back then, it only had the Camera, Hyrule Compendium, and album runes. After you were defeated by Ganon and we sealed you and the Sheikah Slate in the Shrine of Resurrection... I discovered additional runes whole reading through some of the ancient texts. Cryonis and Stasis, for example. " — Purah, Breath of the Wild
- ↑ Hey! Heeeey! Are you surprised?! The director of this laboratory is NOT Symin. It's ME! Snappity snap! Anywaaay. Linky! Do you remember any dreams from your time in the Slumber of Restoration? You don't exactly look like you've changed a bit in the last 100 years, but SOMETHING must have happened in all that time! Well, no matter! I'm just happy you're still in one piece. - Purah
- ↑ ...Linky? What's with that look? You do still remember me, right? - Purah
- ↑ Really?! Well! I'm so shocked I don't know if I'll ever be able to recover from this! Even though, 100 years ago, I took you to the Shrine of Resurrection after Calamity Ganon fatally wounded you... Even though I was the one who put you safely into the Slumber of Restoration... Despite all that, you still don't remember me? - Purah
- ↑ Hmm... As expected. After 100 years in the Slumber of Restoration, subject...has...lost...all...memories. Noted! - Purah
- ↑ Oh, sooooorry... I have a bad habit of taking notes rather abruptly like that. It's a charming quirk, isn't it? Anyhoo... Do you have any questions for me? - Purah
- ↑ Well, Linky, I must say... It's not polite to ask a young maiden such as myself her age! And also don't ask me why I know so many ancient terms! And ALSO don't ask about my diary upstairs! - Purah
- ↑ How very rude! Hm, or perhaps it's not rude at all... I suppose that's actually a rather logical conclusion to jump to. The truth is, I look this way because of a failed experiment. Well, I say "failed," but...in some ways, it was a success. I documented the full affair in my diary upstairs. BUT! The whole thing is embarrassing, so I insist you refrain from reading it! Anyway. Enough about that! Back to the topic at hand! Here you are, after 100 years! Here to defeat Calamity Ganon, who is growing in strength with every passing moment! And to rescue our beloved Princess Zelda! That is, if you've got the courage to try. And to help you one true here, I, the one and only Purah, will restore the basic functions missing from the Sheikah Slate! Aaaand what do you say to thaaaat? - Purah
- ↑ All right, then. First I need you to run an errand for me.... What's with that look on your face? You didn't think I'd fix your Sheikah Slate for free, did you? Hmmm... Post Slumber of Restoration, subject is plagued by...presumptuous... tendencies. Noted! Let me explain what this errand entails. You know the unlit furnace on the wall just outside this laboratory? Could you please bring the blue flame from the ancient furnace in town? Oh, and also use it to light our furnace? This sweet little Guidance Stone will start working once you do that, allowing us to restore your missing runes! - Purah
- ↑ Huh... I wonder if young women these days still say things like "sweet" and "little." Ah, well. I suppose it doesn't matter anyway. - Purah
- ↑ OK then. I'm counting on you for that blue flame! - Purah
- ↑ You'll find the ancient furnace on the high ground behind Reede's house. As soon as you leave this laboratory, head left until you're at the cliff's edge. Then make use of your scope! You'll see a blue flame. That's the ancient furnace. - Purah
- ↑ Blue flame makes it sound fancy, but it's really just the same as a regular flame. If it gets wet, that's that. It'll help to light the village lanterns you'll see on your way back here and to avoid steep inclines. - Purah
- ↑ When bringing back the blue flame from the ancient furnace, you may find it helpful to use a torch. There should be one at the entrance of this house. Feel free to use it. - Purah
- ↑ Hey, you! Linky, thank you so much! Now then, take a look over there! The Guidance Stone must be starting to react! There's nothing mysterious about it-this is pure science! Heh... My sweet little Guidance Stone... you sure know how to make this old researcher's heart flutter! - Purah
- ↑ Well then... Let's go ahead and restore those Sheikah Slate runes for you! Give me a nice SNAP! Go on, no time to be shy about it! - Purah
- ↑ Hookay then, Sheikah Slate repair... underway! Guidance Stone lock removed! Now...let's do this thing! - Purah
- ↑ Camera, Hyrule Compendium, and album missing files confirmed. Starting repair. - Guidance Stone
- ↑ Aaaand...it's done! So?! Is it all fixed up now? Hmmm, lessee here... Which one is it... Camera, Hyrule Compendium, album... Yep, looks good! So I know this is sudden, but hear me out. Take a picture of me with the Camera! Oh, and don't forget to lemme see it! - Purah
- ↑ How's the picture taking going? Did you get a cute pic of me with the Camera? Oooh, I can't wait to see it! Lemme see, lemme see! Hm? My, who IS this beautiful young creature?... Huh? Oh, I guess that's my cue! Sorry, I kind of lost it there. It wasn't on purpose. Hmmm... Ah, it's not just a pretty girl in these images. Yes, there are also some old landscape photos stored in the album. I know Princess Zelda had made frequent use of the Camera feature, but this... Hey, Linky! It dawns on me that you were Princess Zelda's appointed knight, which means... there's a strong possibility that you accompanied her to all of the places where these pictures were taken. - Purah
- ↑ Oh...right. The "lost memory" thing could prove troublesome. But don't lose hope! It just means these pictures could be the missing piece to help restore your lost memories! If my hunch is correct, I suggest you check in with Impa. She knows more about Princess Zelda than even I do!... Oh, yeah! There's just one more thing I need from you! You don't have to worry about this until after you see Impa, but I want you to bring me back some ancient materials! Bring them either to me or to Robbie at the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab. As if my joy weren't enough, if you bring us ancient materials, we'll give you something good as a reward. All right! Let's do this! - Purah
- ↑ Did you bring me any ancient materials? - Purah
- ↑ Now then, in exchange for those ancient materials... I'll power up a rune on your Sheikah Slate! - Purah
- ↑ So... Which rune do you want to power up? - Purah
- ↑ Sheikah Sensor power-up time! Yahoo! For that, three ancient screws should do the trick. - Purah
- ↑ Three ancient screws and a cute snap! Here I goooooo! - Purah
- ↑ Hokay then, Sheikah Sensor upgrade... underway! - Purah
- ↑ Remote Bomb power-up time! Yahoo! For that, I'll need three ancient shafts? - Purah
- ↑ Three ancient shafts and an epic snap! Here I goooooo! - Purah
- ↑ Hokay then, Remote Bomb upgrade... underway! - Purah
- ↑ Stasis power-up time! Yahoo! For that, I'll need three ancient cores? - Purah
- ↑ Oooh! The Sheikah Sensor +! I reaaally want to see it... - Symin
- ↑ Yes, quite. So if you don't mind, how about showing Symin that spiffy Sheikah Sensor + later? - Purah
- ↑ "Link! Well? Did you find anything?" — Purah, Tears of the Kingdom
- ↑ "You're telling me Princess Zelda was at the castle, and then she transformed into LIGHT and flew off? I've gotta say. Your stories are always so wild. But if you're telling me that's what you saw, then I've got to believe it. Sounds like we need to change our approach. Since the princess flew off, maybe we should redirect our efforts and dig into the Upheaval. For now, at least. I've already got a few regions in mind to start exploring. I bet we'll pick up clues about where she flew off to as we look around. Oh yeah! You've still got the Purah Pad, right? Can I see it for a sec?" — Purah, Tears of the Kingdom
- ↑ "It's a little worse for wear but...seems to be functioning fine. Map, map, map... Aha. Oh, right. I forgot that before we can look at your overall map of Hyrule... we need to add map data from right around Lookout Landing. And for THAT, we need our Skyview Tower. Josha, what's the status of the Skyview Tower right now?" — Purah, Tears of the Kingdom
- ↑ "Let me see... Outwardly, the structure looks to be complete. Oh! But the travel point is still undergoing final adjustments!" — Josha, Tears of the Kingdom
- ↑ "The travel point needs tweaking... Sounds like I better get cracking." — Purah, Tears of the Kingdom
- ↑ "Sorry about this, Linky. I'll fix it up quick, so just hang tight. In the meantime, why don't you rest up? You must be pretty tired. The emergency shelter is just the spot for you. It has freed beds and a kitchen, so it's well stocked for getting some rest and rejuvenating yourserlf. If you want more info... talk to the soldier who's watching over everything from the center—right where the emergency shelter entrance is. If you need clothing for your travels... you should go to Mubs's shop. I'll be over by our Skyview Tower, so when you're ready to head out, just let me know. All right, Josha, let's work on our final preparations for the tower. I'll handle the travel point. Josha, you're in charge of the switch!" — Purah, Tears of the Kingdom
- ↑ "If I put this here, then that goes there... No, no, that's not quite it. That should do it. Hey, Link. You all set? I just wrapped up here myself. The travel point is working fine now. Or it will be, once you do your part... We're ready, Josha! Pull the switch!" — Purah, Tears of the Kingdom
- ↑ "All of the Skyview Towers have now beeen activated!" — Josha, Tears of the Kingdom
- ↑ "OK, Link! Your turn! Go hold the Purah Pad over that terminal." — Purah, Tears of the Kingdom
- ↑ "All right! The Skyview Tower is now active on your map. That means you can now use this travel point to get here at any time, instantly. The same is true for every Skyview Tower you add to your Purah Pad. Impressive, right? But Skyview Towers are about more than just traveling quickly. Their primary function is to survey the area. Or more simply put, to make a map! The Purah Pad works with the Skyview Tower and scans the topography directly on to the map. Pretty great, hm? Only this is, you need a paraglider when you're scanning. It takes a lot of skill. And nobody here had what it takes. To be honest, that's why we haven't tested this out yet—we needed you. Which brings us...to this!" — Purah, Tears of the Kingdom
- ↑ "Right. It's showtime. Let's start with a test scan. Now, it's time for our very first test launch— I mean... Our first test. Just step over there, into the circle. And find me afterward, all right? I'll be observing from the research lab. When the test scan is over, we'll have a final briefing on the search for Princess Zelda. And I'll also need to update your map with the places where the Upheaval has wreaked the most havoc. Best of luck!" — Purah, Tears of the Kingdom
- ↑ "What the problem? Lost your nerve? The Purah Pad works with the Skyview Tower and scans the topography directly on to the map. Your task is simply. Just try it out. While you're doing that... I'll be keeping an eye on you from the research lab." — Purah, Tears of the Kingdom
- ↑ "Welcome back! That was some good gliding up there, Link. I expected nothing less. So, how did it go? Did you get a proper map scan? Good. That map is crucial to our search. There are Skyview Towers in every region in the world. You'll want to make a point of visiting them all. Right! Let's talk about the Upheaval. It's affected more than just the castle. Reports of other strange phenomena have been coming in from all over Hyrule. Let's take a look at your map." — Purah, Tears of the Kingdom
- ↑ "The first report comes from Hebra to the northwest. Next up is Eldin to the northeast. The Gerudo are reporting trouble in the southwest. And finally, there's Lanayru to the east. The strange phenomena are concentrated in these four regions. I can't say for certain, but... I've got the nagging suspicion that we might find out more about Princess Zelda by looking into these phenomena." — Purah, Tears of the Kingdom
- ↑ "Hey, Doc... I don't know if this is helpful, but I heard something weird the other day... It was about someone who might've seen Princess Zelda at Rito Village over in Hebra recently." — Josha, Tears of the Kingdom
- ↑ "That is pretty weird, yeah. Generally speaking, I don't put much stock in hearsay. But this does sound like it's worth looking into. Oh, and before I forget, Link. We've asked the Lucky Clover Gazette to help us in the search for Princess Zelda. There's nobody who knows more about the goings-on in Hyrule than them. You can find them near the entrance to Rito Village. If you do go there, you should speak with the editor. I'm sure she could help out in some way too. I'll be here, directing a varity of investigations into the Upheaval's many chasms and new ruins. I'll also be looking into the different villages. Someone, somewhere, might know what's happened to the princess. I'm counting on you to check out the major phenomena that are troubling regions around Hyrule, Link. We'll find Princess Zelda, one way or another!" — Purah, Tears of the Kingdom
- ↑ "Linky. Welcome back. I've been hearing a lot about your adventures.. A serious cold front, food shortages, a floating ship... And there was a sighting of someone who looked like the princess! I had no idea things were that dire for the Rito... If you hadn't shown up to help out, who knows what their fate would've been. It's become clear as day that there's a connection between Princess Zelda and the Upheaval. Things are much more serious than I previously thought. I need you to hurry to the remaining regions, and soon. As we need to investigate the other village I'm concerned about too." — Purah, Tears of the Kingdom
- ↑ "There are three locations left. Eldin to the northeast, Lanayru to the east, and Gerudo region to the southwest. From here, Eldin to the northeast is probably closest. Monsters are pretty active to the south anyway, so you're better off sticking closer to here. You know? Anyway, if you need a refresher on what to do, check your Purah Pad. I'm leaving those regions with phenomena in your hands, so make me proud." — Purah, Tears of the Kingdom
