Main Quests are the parts of games in The Legend of Zelda series which are intended to be essential to game and story completion. In most games, these are implicit, but Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom contain explicit lists dubbed "Main Quests" in the Adventure Log; which follow the main storyline, and are usually acquired by talking to important characters, such as Impa or Purah.

List of Breath of the Wild Main Quests

There are 15 Main Quests in the base game, with an additional 5 as part of The Champion's Ballad DLC. Once completed, a quest cannot be replayed in the same save file, except for Destroy Ganon, which will never stay completed. All Main Quests can be found in the first tab of the Adventure Log.

Breath of the Wild Base Game

Follow the Sheikah Slate

Main article: Follow the Sheikah Slate

Follow the Sheikah Slate is the first Main Quest. It is given to Link by a mysterious voice shortly after leaving the Shrine of Resurrection. Link must follow an objective marking on the map of the Sheikah Slate. This will lead him to the Great Plateau Tower. After activating the Tower, the Main Quest will be complete.

The Isolated Plateau

This quest is activated by talking to the Old Man after completing Follow the Sheikah Slate. Link must collect four Spirit Orbs, in return for the Old Man's Paraglider. This is achieved by completing the four Ancient Shrines on the Great Plateau: Oman Au, Ja Baij, Owa Daim, and Keh Namut. After completing the Shrines, Link must travel to the Temple of Time and talk to the Old Man. This will complete the quest, and Link will be rewarded with the Paraglider, and the Seek Out Impa and Destroy Ganon Main Quests.

Seek Out Impa

Main article: Seek Out Impa

The Old Man gives Link this quest, along with Destroy Ganon, after completing The Isolated Plateau. To complete this quest, Link must travel to Kakariko Village and speak to Impa. Doing so will activate the Locked Mementos and Free the Divine Beasts Main Quests, and complete this quest.

Locked Mementos

This quest is activated along with Free the Divine Beasts after talking to Impa for the first time. Link must travel to Hateno Village and speak to Purah in the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. Purah will then tell Link to light the Ancient Furnace just outside the Tech Lab with a Blue Flame from the Furnace in town. Doing so will activate the Guidance Stone in the Tech Lab. Link must then speak to Purah again, who will then activate the Camera Rune, as well as add the Hyrule Compendium to his Sheikah Slate. Purah will then tell Link to go visit Impa again. After speaking to Impa, the Locked Mementos quest will be complete, and the Captured Memories Main Quest will be activated.

Captured Memories

Main article: Captured Memories

After having the Sheikah Slate repaired at the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab and reporting the progress to Impa, the Kakariko Village elder tells Link to seek out the locations of the twelve photographs taken by Zelda in the Sheikah Slate to see if they will jog Link's memory.

Find the Fairy Fountain

Main article: Find the Fairy Fountain

Speak with Pikango, who can be found right across from Lady Impa's Hall, right near the small camp fire. Follow him to the ledge above Kakariko Village, just beyond the Ta'loh Naeg Shrine. Pikango will get tired and sit down on the side of the path, but will ask Link to find the Great Fairy Fountain up ahead and to take a picture of it. Continue into the forest and find Great Fairy Cotera's fountain. If Link examines the Fairy Fountain and pays either 100; 500; 1,000; or 10,000 Rupees (depending on how many Great Fairies have been restored to power already) Cotera, the Great Fairy will emerge. At this point, Link can talk to Cotera to upgrade some of his armor. Take a photograph of it for Pikango to complete the quest.

Free the Divine Beasts

Main article: Free the Divine Beasts

Link is given this quest by Impa at the conclusion of Seek Out Impa, who tells him there are four Divine Beasts which must be freed. To complete it, the four individual Divine Beast Main Quests (below) must be completed, by destroying the Blight Ganon controlling them, freeing the trapped Champion's spirit and receiving their power, then reporting to the elder of the relevant people that the quest is completed.

Reach Zora's Domain

Main article: Reach Zora's Domain

When traveling through the Lanayru Wetlands, several Zora will point Link in the direction of the Zora River. There, Link is to meet up with Prince Sidon at the Inogo Bridge. When Link finally meets Sidon at the bridge, Sidon will tell Link of the grave danger that Zora's Domain is in. He will ask Link to lend his strength and travel to Zora's Domain, beginning this quest. After Link travels down the pathway and crosses the Great Zora Bridge, he will arrive at Zora's Domain and will be greeted by Sidon. Sidon is happy that Link made it and wants to introduce him to King Dorephan. Once Link speaks to the king, it ends this quest and begins the Divine Beast Vah Ruta main quest (below).
