"A gear used in ancient machinery. Despite being incredibly old, its build quality is leaps and bounds above anything built using current technology."
The Ancient Shaft is a material found in Breath of the Wild and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.
Appearances
Breath of the Wild
Ancient Shafts can be obtained by defeating almost all types of Guardians, with the exception being the Guardian Scout I. Additionally, Link can find an Ancient Shaft by examining a decaying guardian, as well as by lifting legless guardians that are in the water, using Cryonis. Additionally, Link can purchase Ancient Shafts from the traveling merchant Teli. While Teli normally only sells an Ancient Screw, Ancient Spring, and Ancient Gear, he has a rainy day special, where Link can purchase an Ancient Shaft for 160 rupees.
Use
This material can be used in creating ancient equipment at the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, including Ancient Arrows. Ancient Shafts are used in the manufacturing of a number of weapons, including the Ancient Short Sword, Ancient Bladesaw, and Ancient Spear. It is also used to purchase items from the Ancient Set of armor, such as the Ancient Helm. When Link upgrades the Ancient Set at the Great Fairy, he will need at least 15 Ancient Shafts for the third upgrade. Link can also trade an Ancient Shaft with Kilton in his shop, the Fang and Bone, for 20 Mon each.
Slated for Upgrades
- Main article: Slated for Upgrades
In the Slated for Upgrades sidequest, Link will need to acquire three Ancient Shafts in order to upgrade his Remote Bomb rune. After bringing them to Purah, she will upgrade Link's Remote Bombs to Remote Bomb+, which increases both their power and range, as well as decreases the time it takes to recharge.
