In Link's Awakening, the Fishing Pond is located to the north of Madam MeowMeow's House in Mabe Village. Link can go fishing here if he pays ten Rupees.[1]
There are five fish in the water—two of which are of a larger size than the others. The three normal sized fish award five Rupees each.[2] The bigger ones are more difficult to capture, but yield better prizes. The large fish located farthest from the platform awards twenty Rupees,[3] and the other awards a Piece of Heart.

In Ocarina of Time, the Fishing Pond is a sub-area of Lake Hylia. For twenty Rupees, Link can borrow a Fishing Rod and stay for as long as he desires.[4][5] Attempting to leave without returning the Fishing Rod will attract the ire of the Fishing Hole Man,[6] as will the use of a Sinking Lure.
Fish are scored based on their weight. Catching a heavier fish will replace the current record, and certain target weights will allot a prize. As a child, a fish of at least ten pounds will yield a Piece of Heart. As an adult, the Gold Scale is awarded for a fish of at least fifteen. For any subsequent victories or for the capture of a Hylian Loach,[7] the prize is a Purple Rupee.
Access
As a child, Link can reach the entrance of the Fishing Pond by taking a short swim from the southeastern shore. As an adult, however, access is initially impossible due to the lowered water level of Lake Hylia. Completing the Water Temple will return the water to normal. Alternatively, playing the Scarecrow's Song will summon Bonooru next to the entrance, permitting access via use of the Hookshot.
