Breath of the Wild

Robbie.jpg

Dr. Robbie is the lead Guardian researcher, director of the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab and a Sheikah, one of only three that remain who were present during the Great Calamity. [1] He is found at the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab in northeastern province of Akkala.[2]

Robbie spent much of the 100 years after the Great Calamity researching ancient armor and weapons. The goal of the research lab is "to destroy the Calamity that has endured across time".[3] He converted the Guidance Stone at the lab into a robot he named Cherry, which is capable of reproducing a variety of ancient armor and weaponry when provided with the necessary ancient parts[4] and rupees to help fund his research[5]

Robbie is good friends with Purah and is initially surprised to hear that she has taken the form of a child.[6][7] Although since Robbie knows her well, he assumes she probably screwed up some experiment, as that was typical of Purah.[8]

Robbie's Research

Main article: Robbie's Research

It's necessary for Link to have talked to both Impa and Purah afterwards in order to contact Robbie at the Akkala Lab. Otherwise, he won't be present at the lab, and the lab's furnace cannot be lit.

After taking a picture of Purah and showing it to her as part of the Locked Mementos quest, Link can then speak with Purah again to unlock the Robbie's Research quest. When Link first arrives that Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, he talks to Robbie, but Robbie doesn't believe that he's actually Link.[9][10] In order to prove it, Robbie asks Link to see his wounds that he suffered 100 years ago.[11]

Link can remove all of his armor, of which Robbie can then examine the scars on his body, which is proof enough for Robbie.[12]

Robbie is trying to restore power to Cherry, but he needs a Blue Flame from the Ancient Furnace.[13] Since he's an old man, he's unable to climb mounts and cross rivers by himself.[14] The ancient furnace is located to the weest, within the Tumlea Heights and can be seen from just outside the tech lab. The area is surrounded by Blue Moblins and some Black Moblins, make it a bit dangerous.

Link can grab the Torch that is in the tech lab and make his way over to the ancient furnace. After carrying the Blue Flame from torch to torch, he can light the Furnace just outside of the tech lab. Link can then head back in to talk to Robbie, who thinks that his love is what caused Cherry to start working again.[15] After learning that it was Link who lit the flame, Robbie will thank him, reward him with three Ancient Arrows.[16]

Tears of the Kingdom

Tears of the Kingdom Robbie

"An engineer whose eccentric style adds a lot to his reputation as a wild genius. He once helped Link from his research facility at the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab. Since then, he's moved to the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab to help Purah develop the Purah Pad. Robbie thinks he did much of the work on the device, so he's a bit grumbly that it's not named after him."

— In-game description

Robbie is the head of Purah Pad development, and can be found at Lookout Landing at the start of Link's journey. When Link first arrives at Lookout Landing, he is excited to see him, but quickly tells Link that he must speak with Purah.[17] [18]

Robbie intends to head back to the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab and continue his research, but he first needs to help Josha with her investigations into the Depths. Afterwards, he intends to head back to Hateno to work on his own research to power up the Purah Pad.[19]

If Link tries to touch any of the Zonaite or the bundle of Arrows in Lookout Landing he will protest, saying that Josha needs them for her research.[20]

Camera Work in the Depths

Main article: Camera Work in the Depths

After activating the Skyview Towers, Link can speak with Robbie and Josha at Lookout Landing. Robbie wants to head back to the lab, but not until Josha has sorted out the Depths investigation.[21] Josha wants to go and investigate the Depths, but Robbie thinks it is far too dangerous. Robbie himself wants to go down there as well to investigate but is worried about the dangers down below. He knows that Purah would be incredibly angry if anything were to happen to Josha.[22][23][24][25]

Josha is persistant, telling Link that the survey team brought back seom artifacts from the Depths, one which had an image of a two-legged figure with an arm raised. Josha has a theory that a mysterious race once lived in the Depths and wants to go down there to investigate.[26][27][28] Eventually Robbie agrees to go down himself, alongside Link. Robbie says that Link will use the Purah Pad to take a picture if they find what they are looking for.[29] Robbie will eventually teach Link how to use the Camera, but not until they are down in the Depths. He will run ahead to the chasm south of Lookout Landing.[30]

Before Josha can say anything, Robbie will run off.[31][32] Josha will give Link ten Brightbloom Seeds and five Arrow, explaining to Link that it is very dark down in the Depths and these will help him see.[33][34] This will begin the Camera Work in the Depths quest.

After journing down into the depths, Robbie leaves a Note on the Table next to the Nisoij Lightroot. The note warns Link of the darkness within the depths, while also pointing him westward. At the next nearby campfire, there is a second Note on the Table, this one warning Link of the Gloom in the area. Link can continue to travel west towards the Iayusus Lightroot, where he'll find Robbie, just to the southwest. After Link activates the Lightroot, Robbie will comment on how bright it is. Almost as if your on the surface.[35]

Robbie will point out the nearby statue, as it looks awfully like the statue Purah was looking for.[36] Robbie asks Link to get out the Purah Pad to use the Camera.[37] Although he realizes it's locked and will then unlock the Camera feature for Link.[38]

After Robbie fixes the camera and Hyrule Compendium, he asks Link to take a picture of the Statue with raised arm.[39] After taking the picture, Robbie asks Link to run on over and show it to him.[40] After showing the picture to Robbie, he'll be satisfied, calling the picture Stupendous. He will then take off and encourages Link to head back to Lookout Landing to show the picture to Josha.[41]

After arriving back at Lookout Landing, Link can speak with Robbie, who tells Link to show the picture of the statue to Josha.[42] After doing so, Josha confirms that people once lived down in the Depths. He then rewards Link with five Zonaite.[43] She hopes that maybe the Zonaite can help Link in his search for Princess Zelda.[44] This will complete the quest.[45]

Purah Pad Research Lab

After returning to Lookout Landing, Link can speak with Robbie to hear about further upgrades Link can make to the Purah Pad. In particular it has the ability to detect shrines. However, Robbie can't quite do it at Lookout Landing. Insitead, he needs the equipment from the Purah Pad Research Lab, way out in Hateno Village.[46] Robbie describes the place as a dedicated lab, just for the Purah Pad and he will guide Link in the direction of the lab. However, Josha's investigations are his main priority, so until she gets further along, Robbie will remain at Lookout Landing.[47] Robbie is certain the Purah Pad will be essential in finding the princess, but says the shrine sensor is the first thing to upgrade.[48]

Trivia

  • Robbie is named after the strawberry.

  3. The goal of our Sheikah research lab is simple, really. We aim to destroy the Calamity that has endured across time... to rid Hyrule of its dark influence... and above all...to rescue Princess Zelda, who is now a prisoner of the Calamity. We have worked oureselves to the bone conducting our research. For a time, I feared I'd pass before we could prevail. HOWEVER! You, Link, managed to awaken before this old sack of flesh gave out. That means... THE TIME IS NOW! Hm, yes, yes! You! Now is the time to join forces with us Sheikah, yes? We must destroy the Calamity! - Robbie
  4. ". As for Robbie, he went on to adapt his Guidance Stone into a statue that creates ancient soldier gear. He even gave the statue a name... What was it again? Chu? Cha? Che?" — Purah, Breath of the Wild
  5. Did you hear that? Ah! Forgive me, Link. Ever since the fall of Hyrule Castle, we haven't had much in the way of funds for our research. That's why I though you might be willing to help us out! With rupees. Lots of them. I BEG OF YOU! Then let's do it, hm? The two of us, as soon as possible, yes. Let's... Conquer the Calamity, hm! - Robbie
  6. In any case... I really am impressed that you made it all the way out to this rather remote location. Did you, perchance, meet Purah and borrow her power? - Robbie
  7. Hm? Purah? A child? What?! She really has a kid? Hmm. Or do you mean that Purah aged backward... and SHE is now a child? - Robbie
  8. Hm? Are you certain? Hm! So she's as crazy as ever. Okeydoke. Knowing her, I'm guessing she screwed up some experiment. Hm, hm, yes. Typical. - Robbie
  9. Hey, you! What are you doing here? Hmmm... Hm? Hmmm? - Robbie
  10. Are you...the one called...Link? - Robbie
  11. Hm? Hm. That's too bad. If you WERE the legendary Link, there would be something important I'd need to tell you. But how can I determine with full certainty whether or not you are the true hero? Yes, how indeed? Hm? Hm, hm, yes. If you can show me the wounds your body suffered 100 years ago, that should prove you are truly Link. - Robbie
  12. Hm? Hm! Hmmm... Yes, the number of scars on your body...just as I remember. Most seem to have healed, but they do line up with the scars I know you got during the Great Calamity 100 years ago. Hm. Yes, I acknowledge you as the real Link. So let us begin again... - Robbie
  13. Cherry...erm, the ancient over... creates ancient soldier gear. But I fear she's out of sorts at the moment. Hm. I'm afraid someone will have to bring the blue flame from the ancient furnace again... - Robbie

  15. You! Link! Listen up, hm! My darling Cherry is back to normal! Such is the power of love... My love made Cherry well again! - Robbie
  16. ... Oh... Well, thank you. Yes, quite. Now then, please take this as a gift of my gratitude now that Cherry is fixed! - Robbie
  17. "Ah, what a pleasant morning! Hey. Hey, YOU! Where have you been?! Don't answer that. Tell me later. For now, you should hurry and go talk to Purah. She's been in a tizzy ever since you and the princess disappeared. She's in the building with the telescope, up on the second floor. Go see her and give her some peace of mind, will ya?" — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  18. "Hey. You! I told you—talk to me later. For now you should hurry up and go to Purah. She's in the building with the telescope, up on the second floor. Go see her and give her some peace of mind, will ya?" — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  19. "Ah, what a pleasant evening! Hey! Hey, you! Do you have any idea how worried we've been?! So that's the arm, huh? I...overheard Purah talking about it. Hmmm. I...see. Yeah, it's pretty weird, all right. Hmm... Nope, now's not the time for distractions! That's got to wait until later. Anyway, I hear you've got yourself the Purah Pad now. You know, that Purah Pad of yours can get a lot more powerful. I know its real potential, I've got big plans for that device, but first I need to help Josha with her investigations into the Depths. But then-oh, yes, THEN!-I will head back to the lab in Hateno Village to resume my research. So, once I'm able to finish up here, you should join me there!" — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  20. "WAIT A MINUTE! What do you think you're doing?! Josha needs that for her chasm research! Don't touch any of it without her permission. I'll get in big trouble if you do." — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  21. "Ah, what an excellent night! Oh, it's you! You know, that Purah Pad of yours may seem perfect... But it could be even more perfect! I'll need to head back to the lab when Josha's got the Depths investigation sorted out..." — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  22. "Come ON, Goggles! Are you even listening to me?" — Josha, Tears of the Kingdom
  23. "Oh! Uh, yes! Sorry, you were saying?" — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  24. "I was SAYING that I want to go investigate the Depths! Look, if you're not gonna listen to me, I'll go and jump into a chasm myself!" — Josha, Tears of the Kingdom
  25. "No way, no how! You can't do that! The Depths are far too vast for you to explore on your own. And we've only barely begun to look into them. I'd love to go gallivanting around down there too—who knows what wonders are at the bottom of those chasms! But no matter how wondrous they may be, it's far too dangerous for you. I'm not about to allow our young prodigy to go wandering around somewhere so unknown, so foul! If anything were to happen to Purah's favorite student, it'd be the end for me! The END!" — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  26. "But I need more on that figure! If we have more info on it, then it should help us better understand the Depths!" — Josha, Tears of the Kingdom
  27. "Oh, Swordsman! Sorry, I didn't meant to leave you out of the conversation. Let me get you up to speed. Our survey team brought back some artifacts from a journey into the Depths. One of them caught my eye." — Josha, Tears of the Kingdom
  28. "This piece of slate. Specifically, the image depicted on it. See that figure standing on two legs with one arm raised up? Well...I have a theory. I think it could be evidence that a mysterious people once lived in the Depths. That's why I want to go down there—so I can see if there are any more depictions like this one. I want to see for myself! But Goggles here says it's too dangerous, and he won't let me go." — Josha, Tears of the Kingdom
  29. "Josha, come on now... Tell you what. I'll go down there myself and see if I can't find anything about the figure on that slate. And Link will join me! We'll start by looking for anything down there that resembles the figure on the slate. Assuming we find what we're looking for, we'll use your Purah Pad's camera to take a picture of it for Josha. A perfect plan!" — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  30. "You don't know about the camera? It's one of the Purah Pad's basic features! With the camera, you can capture nearby scenery as an image—one that's stored in your pad there! Sounds like you still have more to learn about the Purah Pad... Well then, I'll teach you how to take pictures. Once we're down there, anyway. There will be lots of monsters in the Depths though. So I'll be counting on you to keep me safe. Let's see... I guess we should enter through the chasm to the south of Looking Landing. I'll go on ahead. Once you're ready and rarin' to go, come find me there. Ta-ta!" — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  31. "Wait, hang on!" — Josha, Tears of the Kingdom
  32. "Looks like he's gone... I'm sorry you got roped into all of this, Swordsman. Goggles means well... But when he wants to help me, he leaps before he looks. But here, maybe this will help you out, at least." — Josha, Tears of the Kingdom
  33. "Oh, and take this too." — Josha, Tears of the Kingdom
  34. "The chasms are pretty deep, so light from the surface doesn't make it down there. It's pitch black! But if you attach a brightbloom seed to an arrow and shoot it, it'll light up the area. Definitely a useful trick down there! OK, you'll want to head straight out of Lookout Landing's southern gate. You'll find the chasm Goggles used just outside. I don't know too much about how your camera works... But I'm counting on you to bring me that picture. Oh, and please look after Goggles for me!" — Josha, Tears of the Kingdom
  35. "What?! Look at how bright that thing got! That light down in this dark is downright refreshing. Hm... In fact, it's so luminous, it's almost like... Like we're on the surface! Just standing near it makes me feel so much better. How strange." — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  36. "Hey, it's you! You're finally here! I need to show you what I've found. This statue... It's standing tall on two legs, one arm raised high... It looks an awful lot like the figure Josha showed us on that piece of slate, don't you think?" — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  37. "All right! Get that camera of yours ready. It's time to put it to work. That's right! I forgot you hadn't used the camera when we last spoke. Very curious indeed, given it's one of the Purah Pad's basic features. Hmm... Give me that Purah Pad for a second, all right?" — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  38. "Well! There's the problem! Your camera is locked. And so's your Hyrule Compendium. Hang on. If I remember correctly... You press this while you pull this, and then you tap that, and..." — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  39. "Boom. Now you should be able to use both the camera and your Hyrule Compendium. So! Go capture a picture of that statue! This is a good chance to verify that it's working properly too. Test it out. Experience is the best teacher, after all! Once you've captured the image, come back here. I'll want to see how it looks." — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  40. "Hey, you! How'd that go? If you've captured an image of that statue with your camera, then hurry up and show me! I'd like to see how it looks!" — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  41. "So? Did you get a good picture? Stupendous! Looks like you've captured it well. I'm sure Josha will be satisfied with this. Lighting up that immense root... Getting us a picture of the statue... You've just started helping us research what's down here, but soon enough we're going to have even more to investigate. Well then, it's time I head back up to the surface. See you at Lookout Landing. Don't make Josha wait too long for that picture!" — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  42. "Hey! You! Show Josha the picture you took of the statue. The figure matches up pretty well—and it looks darn cool too!" — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  43. "That is it! This does match what's on the fragment! Thank you, Swordsman! Just like on the slate, this figure must be showing people of some sort, whoever they were! Which confirms my theory—that people lived in the Depths! I'm sure we'll find more traces of them if we keep searching. This is... A BIG, BIG, BIG DISCOVERY! Now, what's next! The possibilities... There's so much more to research... Oh, but before I focus on that... There's something I want to give you as thanks for helping with this stage of my investigation. Our earlier surveys of the Depths found all of this. What do you think it's for?" — Josha, Tears of the Kingdom
  44. "I feel as if these contain some kind of strange power—like maybe it's energy for something. Anyway, they might help you in your search for Princess Zelda. So hopefully you find them useful! That fragment has helped us see the Depths in a new way. Now we're closer to understanding one of its mysteries! I'm going to sift through everything that our surveys have brought back from down there. Maybe there are even more fragments that I can piece together!" — Josha, Tears of the Kingdom
  45. "Goggles! Swordsman! Thank you so much for going to investigate the Depths for me!" — Josha, Tears of the Kingdom
  46. "Great job getting the picture of the figure that Josha was looking for! She was pretty happy to see that statue. And I was thrilled to show you how to use the camera. Inspired, even! The Purah Pad has even more potential funcions, you know. Listen Up! Big update here. Your Purah Pad can be equipped with a sensor that detects shrines. ... Come on! Act more impressed! I'm the first one in ALL of Hyrule who noticed the shrines after the Upheaval. So I created a sensor to detect them! Only thing is, I can't set it up here at Lookout Landing. It'd be nearly impossible unless I'm at the Purah Pad Research Lab in Hateno Village." — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  47. "That's right. It's a lab dedicated to the enhancement of the Purah Pad, which Purah and I developed. Once I'm in that lab, and you join me there, I can further improve your Purah Pad, starting with the sensor. You'll find the lab in East Necluda, off in the southeast corner of Hyrule. On its far side is Hateno Village. Go a bit farther than that and you'll see a mighty peculiar place. Don't let the looks fool you. It's a cutting-edge lab! But for now, Josha's investigations are my main priority. So untill she gets further along, I'll be staying here for a while." — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
  48. "The Purah Pad will prove to be absolutely essential for finding the princess! I'm sure of it. So you'll want the pad upgraded to be of even MORE use, starting with that shrine sensor. But I can't do it at Lookout Landing, not with the meager equipment we have on hand here. Even with my genius for these things, I need to upgrade it at the Purah Pad Research Lab in Hateno Village." — Robbie, Tears of the Kingdom
