People dislike PH because they hear that one person hates it, then they think OMG THATS KEWL LOL and hate it as well. Mindless zombies. And Turo602, PH isn't a spin-off or a 'side game' as you call it. It's part of the main series, mainly because it's a direct sequel to Wind Waker.

That's not what I meant. The way I mean ''Side Game'' is like a game that has to do with nothing. It wasn't your regular Zelda game that was about Hyrule or Ganondorf. You know what I mean? I'd consider The Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask (Maybe), The Wind Waker, and Twillight Princess, to be main Titles to the series Like the Important games. I don't know how I feel about the the Four Swords sub-series yet.

So you're saying that because it doesn't revolve around Hyrule or Ganondorf it's not a true zelda game? That makes no sense. PH is a direct sequel to WW, in which Hyrule is flooded and Ganondorf is at the bottom of the ocean turned to stone with the Master Sword in his forehead, so there can't be a Hyrule or Ganon in PH. Back on topic, I thought PH was a great game, infact it's my 4th favourite zelda game. Dunno what's so bad about the TotOK though, the time limit adds to the difficulty, and there's only 13 floors. In ST however, there's 30 floors, and every time you go there you have to walk up that 'kin staircase. D:

I don't think your getting the point. I mentioned those things as a regular occurrences in Zelda Titles. That's what you'll expect from any Zelda game. Yes it's a sequel, but none of what you just said had anything to do with Phantom Hourglass, you just stated things that happened in Wind Waker. I never said it wasn't a true Zelda game, stop putting words in my mouth. It just didn't feel important like the other games I stated were.

Well, usually the reason people don't like it is because of the Temple of the Ocean King, since you have to redo some of the levels, which can get quite annoying. And after beating it like 20 times, it gets boring, like there's nothing new to discover or any super hard side quests.

But in my opinion, Phantom Hourglass was so-so, since it was very unique in a way. It brought new ideas and it had comical characters, like Linebeck and on occasion, Oshus.

i thought the gameplay and controls were great and really something new that i liked. sadly i didnt like the fact it was just a sequel game and had no real connecting storyline to the rest of the series.

It's extremely biased to make such an accusation, and personally, I've seen more people that like it, than those who hate it. If you like the game, that's fine, but respect other peoples' opinions no matter what their reasoning is.

Okay. I loved Phantom Hourglass but compared to other Zelda games I also hated it. Here are my reasons why.

:) Story

Phantom Hourglass has a great story that is well thought out and contains less cliches than some others. It also made me smile numerous times and the characters are really cute!

:( Songs

The soundtrack for Phantom Hourglass deeply dissapointed me. The songs just sat there. They didn't stick in my mind or impress me, my DS spent most of it's time on mute during the game.

:) Characters

I thought Toon Link was really cute along with Toon Tetra and the other characters. Ciela was also a good touch, but she was a lot like Navi in some ways.

:( Difficulty

That game is just painfully easy, I actually had to slow down because I was scared of finishing the game too fast.

So all in all it is 50/50 from me.

I didn't finish this game for one sole reason: it didn't keep me interested. It's kind of strange, because I'm normally a sucker for handheld Zelda games. There was something that just 'put me off' from this game. I don't know if it was the iffy controls, or the fact that you had to revisit that one temple so many times, but the game just didn't appeal to me in general. I don't want to be totally negative though, there are a couple of things that I did like. For one, the dungeons were well designed and they were nice and short... well, save for one of them... The controls - although limited by a touch screen - weren't all that bad either. The only annoying thing about them was the rolling, but from what I've read, they fixed that in Spirit Tracks.

The story didn't really manage to keep me interested for too long, same with the characters who never really developed. Sure, the main focus was put on characters such as Linebeck and Ciela (or whatever the heck her name is :P), but they could have give characters like Jolene more backstory. Other than that the dialogue seemed a bit stiff at times, but it's a good thing that Linebeck was there to lighten the mood somewhat.

I don't dislike this game, but I just couldn't be bothered to finish it. There's a big chance I'll finish the game in the future, though! :) ... Once I feel like it. xP

I like Phantom Hourglass. I haven't finished it yet, but I like having to figure things out differently than in other games. I have to think in a completely different way. (like with the invisible floor, I didn't find the tablet for that untill after I mapped it out myself. lol) Also discovering those uncharted islands, that was fun. You're just sailing along and suddenly a island appears in the horizon, I immediately thought, "Ooh, whats that?!" and went to go explore it. Also I liked how Linebeck acts it's hilarious.

Phantom Hourglass was amazing in my opinion! It's just the Temple of the Ocean King that threw some people off. The soundtrack wasn't anything special, but there always was Linebeck's theme!

Honestly, I think the game was just hated 'cause of it's difficulty at some parts...

It is disliked because it is linear, small, lacks an overworld that was properly traveled, and more. I myself actually like it, but others think that it doesn't meet the standards for a "true Zelda game". Most of those are the 2D-era gamers, who die for non-linearity.

I'm a big Wind Waker fan, so when I first heard about Phantom Hourglass, I was really looking forward to it.
When I played it, I was really let down.

Story
I really liked the story in WW, but PH really did not feel like it built-off of WW. Plus parts of the story feel like they were taking from LA(Ocean King=Wind Fish, Bellum=Nightmare). I really had no interest in saving the world of the Ocean King, from Bellum. The story felt like it was thought up in about five seconds.

Gameplay
I found the gameplay to be ok. I actually like controlling Link with the touch screen. One thing that does bug me about the game is the dungeons. They all kind of felt the same to me, plus the parts where you had to take notes, to help you later on in the dungeons did not help make any of the dungeons feel unique.

Sound
The game sounded nice, but none of the songs in the game really stood out.

Sailing
I liked sailing in WW, but I feel that they ruined it in PH. Sure there were more enemies out at sea, but it felt lifeless to me. Plus having to pull out the seachart every time I wanted to change direction, or make a small change of course when sailing got annoying.

Temple of the Ocean King
On paper, the idea of one big temple that you have to keep going back to sounds interesting, but when playing the game itself it gets really annoying. Plus I felt that all those repeat trips to the temple of the Ocean King were just a way to make the game a little bit longer.

Those are my reasons for not liking Phantom Hourglass.

I think there are several reasons that people don't like Phantom Hourglass...

One of the major reasons I dislike Phantom Hourglass is the fact that the sailing is so tedious and boring. What aggravates the annoyance even more is that you can't just plot the path and leave the game for a few minutes, you have to make sure that enemies don't appear and destroy your health. It was just too boring, the only reason I could bare to tolerate all the travelling was because I was travelling to France from Liverpool by coach...

The next reason was that Nintendo tried to make the game revolve around the stylus and touch screen too much in my opinion. Sure, it's cool that the DS has a touch screen, but I don't want to use it every second that I am playing the game. People will probably complain about the fact I think they tried to base the game way to much around the stylus, but I think it made the game gimmicky (If that is the right word to use).

Finally, I just don't generally like the game outside of when I am travelling, the only time that I would be able to play the game is if I was extremely bored and forced myself to play it. I don't know why I don't want to play the game, I guess it's the fact that it's way to easy and it's heavily based around puzzles.

Finally, basically all enemies in that game, including Bellum, were lame. You could kill them all in a matter of seconds, well except for the bosses, but they were still lame.
