I'm currently hearing a lot of that.... could you please elaborate as to why if you don't mind..?
There's a ton of reasons actually. For one, I believe this Link resembles the classic Link a lot more than any of the modern interpretations with his insanely long mutton chops and slender physique. Ganondorf is also referred to as just Ganon which we know to be a big blue pig and a similar figure is seen swarming the castle in Breath of the Wild. Both classic Link and Ganon are prominently present all throughout the downfall timeline.
The resting place of the Master Sword as seen in the E3 trailer is also identical to where it was in A Link to the Past, from light shining to the placement of the flowers.
I also think this Link could be the Link who fell in Ocarina of Time which is why he wakes up in a resurrection chamber and Hyrule is in ruins. The Old Man even acknowledges that Link should remember Zelda's voice meaning these could possibly be the same Link and Zelda from a previous game. Link, we know has been in stasis for 100 years but Zelda still being alive is quite a mystery but not impossible. Perhaps she's been trapped in the castle with Ganon and put in a stasis similar to that diamond contraption she was stuck in, in Ocarina of Time.
I think the timing to do something like this makes a lot of sense considering they've finally established a timeline which gives them the opportunity to unify their games a lot better from here on out which I believe we've already caught glimpses of with the presence of the Hylia statue which was established in the last game. I also believe The Great Plateau is Skyloft as it's risen from the ground with cloudiness beneath it. Castle Town from Ocarina of Time is also present but in ruins as is the Temple of Time which establishes its connection to Ocarina of Time.
The downfall timeline was also criticized by the majority of the community as it came out of nowhere so what better way to legitimize its existence than by touching on the event that kickstarted it in a game?
