What Game Series Do You Marathon Through?

Usually in most cases one would play a replay a game in the series, but what about replaying a game series in order. Whether it be in chronological order, or order of release. What games in a series do you play back to back?

For me I usually do a marathon of Ratchet & Clank 1, Sly 1, Ratchet & Clank 2, Sly 2, Ratchet & Clank 3, Sly 3, then Ratchet: Deadlocked. The main reason for the Sly Cooper games is, because the Ratchet & Clank games have references to that series. I don't have all the Jak games, so until I do I don't plan on adding it to the marathon. Even though the Jak and Daxter series also makes a huge cameo in Going Commando (The second Ratchet & Clank game.) The main reason for the Ratchet & Clank being the sole purpose of the Marathon is because Ratchet & Clank 2 gives you a few weapons for free if you have a save file on your memory card of the first game. Ratchet & Clank 3 also gives you discounts for weapons if you have a file of one and two. The majority of the weapon discounts in Ratchet & Clank 3 only applies if you've gotten to a certain point in the first game. Ratchet & Clank 3 also has an unlockable skin if you have a save file of Ratchet & Clank 1 on your memory card. So the games really benefits from a marathon like this.

Another game series I'm thinking about doing a marathon of is the Pikmin series now that I have all the games in the series.

I actually did MGS not too long ago but only up to 3

I've done other little ones here and there like Mario 1 - 3 or something but haven't been able to do so w/ bigger 3d games too often, I've always been meaning to do the N64 and GC Zelda's though

Yeah. Bigger 3D games tend to make me lose my interest halfway through, and I usually end up not finishing them.

I also need to finish Metal Gear Solid 1.

The last series I really wanted to marathon was Dragon Age. In the leadup to Dragon Age 3's release, I decided to create a fresh save with all my latest choices. That meant playing not only the base games, but multiple expansions. It was probably to be a 100 hour ordeal.

Thankfully, DA3 ended up not using a real safe transfer system. 100 hours of my life saved.

I find it hard to justify marathoning games in a series I've played already, especially if they're too expansive or time consuming. But if I have access to a series that I'm just getting into, then I have no problem playing them back to back like I first did with the Splinter Cell series, Devil May Cry trilogy and the first 3 Metal Gear Solid games.

I think video game compilations have made it incredibly easy to marathon retro games, too, which I've done before with the Streets of Rage trilogy and the Sega Genesis Sonic games in the past. More recently, my brother and I were blasting through a lot of the beat em ups in the TMNT: Cowabunga Collection. All really easy to pick up and play games that can be beaten relatively quickly compared to more modern games.

Generally though, I do try to replay a prior game before its sequel if I have time, especially if there's a reason to like a remaster, which itself is a good excuse to revisit an older game. Having anticipated the physical release of Alan Wake 2, I decided to play the first one again via its remaster which I hadn't played. Did the same with the HD Remaster of Resident Evil remake before the release of Resident Evil 2 remake. I have yet to play Bayonetta 3, but I do have all 3 games on Switch, so a marathon of those games is definitely in my future.

But I think my favorite games to marathon is easily the Halo series. When I first played through the Master Chief Collection, I was able to discover, experience, and pull off so many tricks and easter eggs that I wouldn't have ever attempted before in each Halo game that I've played dozens times in the past, thanks to its thoughtfully put together achievement list. I know people had their issues with the MCC and still do, but playing through the series leading up into the release of Halo 5 is still one of my all time favorite experiences in gaming.

I remember playing the MOTHER games back to back. I think that's the only marathon I've ever done.

Halo. I use to play Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo Reach which ends with beginning of Halo Combat Evolved so you can start over again; a perfect circle or halo.

I use to marathon The Mario Games, particularly SMB to SMW, but I never really played 64 much till the Remake.

Sonic, I use to play Sonic 1 through 3 with Sonic and Knuckles a lot. I played a lot of Sonic Adventure 2, but because I only played Adventure 1 through once, I cannot include either in a marathon.

That is why I dislike anything after Halo Reach, well ODST being exempt cuz its Halo 3: ODST. I felt Halo should have ended with the four games. Halo 4 has an amazing story, I get it, but I like when some stories have beginning, middle, and end.
This is exactly why I feel some video game characters are best not to bring back after their official story arc ends, just for fan appeasement.

Anyway, we should probably get back on topic.

Another marathon run I'd like to do sometime is from Sonic Adventure to Shadow the Hedgehog.
