The thing is though that all of that stuff is done mockingly, not reverently. I don't mock things that I respect.

Not completely true. Some people do actually enjoy the games (they have fans, trust me) yet make those jokes, as they're funny in the context of any conversation. Additionally, some are still mocking it, but in a lighthearted fashion akin to how two buddies might harass and insult each other playfully.

Simply not all the usage of the CD-i jokes is actually intended negatively towards the games themselves.
