After posting on OGSs thread about"olders memories of the internet, I got to thinking, what are your "fondest memories" of the early internet? Such as any favorite sites that no longer exist or are a shell of their former glory.

A few things I remember are
  1. AOL Chats: chatting with friends and having to cut them short and picking back up after having to log off because someone needed the phone for some important call.
  2. POGO: Even though it's still around, it no longer has the "fun games" it used to have, even though there are still a few that are still around.
  3. Ganon's Tower: One of the older Zelda Sites that I was a member of that is no longer around.
  4. Talk Zelda: Another Forums that I joined 05/06(ish) durring my 2nd or 3rd fight against cancer. Made a friend or two there that I miss chattind with.

Dude
This is on the backend, but I didn't have wifi as a kid, so what I had to do was run to the big tree in my backyard and climb if, then I could get a signal strong enough from my neighbor's house to connect my DS to wifi, then I could use the GTS in pokemon

Very much a dude.
When Google was Ask Jeeves, dealing with dial-up, having to learn basic command prompts, when we had typing classes, having to change the bit depth of colors to make some games work, some games came on several floppy disks, some games had multiple DVD's, and changing them even when the game prompted you was always risky (our computer could barely handle some games so it froze a lot), remembering the nightmare that was Windows Millennium, and Windows Vista, and the whole Napster and Limewire thing was a fun time.

This is why I really don't get too frustrated with computer issues, having been on them my whole life, I'm familiar with how they work. Plus, if a human made them and designed them, me, a human, can figure it out and fix it.

Setapp's guide https://setapp.com/how-to/leave-family-sharing on leaving Family Sharing is straightforward and informative. It simplifies the steps needed to opt out of a shared Apple account, addressing common issues like data access and purchase history. The guide makes a potentially confusing process easy to follow, ideal for anyone looking to manage their account independently.
My fondest memories of the 90s and early 00s internet revolve around retro games. Discovering classic titles like *Doom*, *Quake*, and *The Legend of Zelda* was exhilarating, as online forums buzzed with tips and tricks. I spent countless hours in chat rooms discussing strategies and sharing cheat codes with fellow gamers. The thrill of playing multiplayer games over dial-up connections, often filled with lag but overflowing with camaraderie, is a cherished part of my childhood. Those experiences sparked a love for gaming that lasts to this day!

Probably the sound of the dial-up modem or discovering classic flash games like Kitten Cannon for the first time.

Hmm... I miss the PS1, N64 and Gamecube days, I miss gametalk.com, I miss having friends to hang out with, I miss my family, and... pretty much everything else from back then (aside from cable TV, thank Hylia for streaming services and the internet)

my fondest memories of the world wide web back in Fall 1998 and all of 1999

Hotmail had their own free personal ads
Yahoo also had personal ads
Snap.com was the exact same as yahoo. a search engine site
Netscape I used all the time
Star Wars Troops was the only entertaining thing to watch for a fan made Star Wars media
Starcraft and Command and Conquer Red Alert were a big deal for PC gamers at the time. Seriously

side note. on my college campus at the dorm, we had a choice of either Comedy Central or Sci Fi Channel. somehow we got both. and at the time during October the tv extended version of Halloween 1 would be on a few times. that and one of those Robotech shows would be on Sci Fi Channel.
