When stuck in a Zelda game, the first thing many people do is talk to their familiar (Navi, Tatl, King of Red Lions, Midna, Fi, etc) looking for a hint. However, most walkthroughs don't have a way look up where in the game one is by what the familiar is saying. When backtracking is involved, it's not always easy to find the information you want in a guide because the gameplay isn't linear.

Is there a demand for walkthroughs organized by what your familiar is saying? You could Ctrl+F and start typing what they say and be at the relevant section.

Um... What's a walkthrough, and what's a guide? ...Okay, I know what those are, I just don't know what they look like. Never used them. When I get stuck, I just spend the entire day figuring out what to do. So I wouldn't know how to answer this thread.

I think they're asking if it's viable to organize a game's walkthrough based on what the companion character has been prompted to say at that point, to which I'd say no. It'd be better to organize your walkthrough based on the actual order of events.

I had a friend growing up who's dad wouldn't allow them to buy a strategy guide because it "ruins the game." That's the way some people see it.

Lucky you! It would take me a lot longer than a day. Lol

Sometimes it's the same for me, I remember getting stuck in one dungeon for a week, before figuring out the solution. For some reason, I love being stuck solving a Dungeon's puzzle. For me, it means the developers did a good job with the game.

At first blush I can see the use for this but when you consider that most companions have hints that directly reference a person place or thing you're meant to interact with, you can instead just search for that person place or thing and find out how to advance the quest. Some examples of dialogue that this wouldn't work for would help illustrate your point or show that there might be demand for it though

Honestly, I actually don't see how this will work. Some companions only give one piece of dialogue for the entire dungeon, not individual rooms. For me, I don't think it would work.

That's a good way to look at it. I hope I'm that lucky.

With some dungeons I feel like it's a little easier to tell people how far along in the game you are, because of the floor numbers.

Given how many people hate Navi and Fi, I don't think the companions themselves are even a solved problem.

Navi isn't a bad companion. She never holds your hand after the first few dungeons. Sure she blocks you from first person view 90% of the time, but I usually just tune her out. You hardly use the C up Button anyway. Most of the time I forget she's even trying to talk to me.

Yeah in my experience most people who hate Navi can't quote her correctly beyond:
  • Hey
  • Listen
  • Watch Out
I'd have no problems with them giving her or any of the other companions more dialog the next time they remaster the game so long as reading it is opt-in and not during a mandatory cutscene. And that's not just because it makes my walkthrough idea more viable! More dialog means we see more of the character.

I agree. Having an optional text with a companion, rather than a mandatory is always better. Because it doesn't feel forced, and makes it less annoying.
