TPHD-Wii U Thoughts on the controls?

Well, now that most of us have had the chance to play a bit of Twilight Princess HD, I'm wondering how everyone feels about the controls. Obviously, the new controls mean a lot more to those who have only played the Wii version rather than the GameCube version, but there are definitely changes for people coming from both control schemes.

So, what's your opinion on the controls for Twilight Princess HD? Do you prefer the controls from any previous version of the game more?

Only played the Wii version before, and the controls here are much, much better. I find that Link generally does a lot of things faster (climbing, opening chests and the like), and does whatever I want him to most of the time. I say most of the time because controlling the horse can be a pain sometimes. I feel like her controls are almost a little too responsive. *edit* I like how using the shield and Z-targeting are mapped to the same button though.

Here's the thing. Its a problem I had with Wind waker HD and its a problem with TP HD. The action button is on the right when it should be middle bottom. It just feels wrong there and wish there was an option to change it.

Apart from that I have found the controls to be ok. I like the gyroscope aiming of the pad and the ability to change equipped items on the go. Overall I prefer the Wiimote and Nunchuck scheme. It was just really easy to use and I never had any problems with it.

My friend had the same issue. They thought they put away the lanturn but only put it on the side while swing his sword and I was like you need to put it away before you lose your oil and i look and saw they were actually hitting the B button.

I don't know why, but I find horse riding alot more awkward in TPHD than I did in the GameCube Version. I've never had a problem controlling Epona when fighting king bulblin on the Bridge of Eldin or the escort mission to Kakariko Village. For some odd reason when Epona starts running at a faster pace, Epona becomes a bit more unstable in terms of handling. I've been running into walls and Bullbos quite a few times, yet it never happened in the GameCube Version. I guess I'm not used to Horse riding in TPHD yet.

Apart from that, I think the controls are decent, though I wish the button allocations for calling Midna and ZL Targeting were away from each other because I keep getting the two buttons mixed up.

Yeah, Midna should have been on the D-pad in my opinion. I keep accidentally calling her.

Use the right stick to actually steer her. I know that this is hard to grasp at first, but pointing the camera at where you want to go while holding up and the analog stick really does feel really good.

It's likely that it will be used to Zelda U, and I am completely fine with that. It's a lot more realistic, and a lot more satisfying once you get used to it.

Wait, that's how it works? I'm so gonna try that. Thanks for the tip!

It took a little bit of getting used to. I kept pressing L to lock on to enemies instead of ZL because of the hundreds of hours I've spent in Hyrule Warriors. Epona is different to control while moving, I can't decide if it's better or not. Changing items with the Game Pad screen feels quick while a bit cumbersome at the same time, it's hard to explain; I felt like that in The Wind Waker HD too. Gyro is nice, although there's little point to it since you can't move while aiming; it's not as good as Splatoon.

I just started riding Epona again after obtaining the Master Sword and tried out your method...it turns out that's not what I've been struggling with. What I'm having trouble with is moving Epona left and right while she's dashing. Unfortunately your method can't be used while dashing, so what I've done instead is run around Hyrule Field for a while and practice in open and closed environments. I've gotten a little used to it now, but I'm dreading the part where you have to ride the Bullbo in Gerudo Desert.

Riding Epona sucks in TPHD. I try to go through a gateway or something, and if I'm not head-on, she stops. Takes 5 seconds to back up. And then I have to walk backwards, align myself, and start riding again.
