I was SO surprised that there wasn't a thread on this.

Well do you like the movies? I personally love them, and they were a very good adaption from book to movie. Even though they left out Tom Bombadil

Well the Hobbit is coming out in 2010. Anyone excited besides me?

Also there is a rumored movie for the Simarillion! http://www.moviesonline.ca/movienews_11758.html This could be hard because it's a VERY complicated book.

Discuss.

I was a big fan for a while. I loved the books and movies. I'm excited about the Hobbit. but the Silmarillion? Wow. That will be impossible. Seriously, it jumps all over the place and there really aren't any major main characters. Ah well. In the article's comments, someone said it would be cool to see Numenor in film. If they focused on one part of the book to film, along with background of the Valar and the world beginning and such.

I'm probably one of the few people who thought that the Lord of the Rings movies were overrated.
They were way too long to watch, and I started to lose my interest in watching the movie.

I read all of the Lord of the Rings books, and I loved the movies as well. I can't wait for the Hobbit in 2010 either. It should be good, providing they got some of the original actors (Like Sir Ian McKellan) and some good new ones.
It should also be noted that Christmas 2007 I got the book "Children of Hurin", which was good, but kind of tragic. Has anyone else read this one?

My sister has read that book. Once I finish The Return of the King and The Simarillion I will read Children of Hurin.

I haven't read the books so far, but the movies are awesome. I hope the Hobbit movie will be as good as the other Lotr movies.

Movies were awesome. The best book adaptation films that I've ever seen. And the books were great too. I haven't read them for a long time now, but I remember them quite clearly.
But, the Hobbit? Wow. That was rumored, in 2007, to come out last year. But then Peter Jackson just had to get involved in King Kong (even though that was a good movie.) The Hobbit, as a book, was extremely awesome. I hope the movie will do it justice.

I thought the LotR movies were great. A lot of people don't like because they were "too long", but I actually like that. =P Three hours of awesomeness. Unless you watch the extended edition, which is better IMO, and then there's another 30 min to an hour. As if it couldn't get any longer right?

I'm very excited about The Hobbit coming out on the big screen. It's one of my favorite books, and I think, or at least hope, that it will be as good as the Lord of the Rings movies.

I don't know enough about the copy that came out recently to know if it's the same thing. But the Children of Hurin is in the Silmarillion, and if it is the same, I have read it! :p Great story.

Yeah, it's pretty good from what I remember. If I remember correctly, I think Tolkein died while writing it, and had like his grandson or someone finish it. Correct me if I'm wrong though, I could be thinking of a different book.

I started reading the book. But it was english.. big.. and way beyond my reading level ><

I did like the movies though and I remember my mother read me the hobbit. It sounds like it would make a good movie. I remember seeing the cartoon hobbit movie when I was little ^^

I think that the Lord of the Rings films are great, I have met the guy that plays Gimli a few times, He has a home on the same Island that I live on, My mum used to visit some friends that knew him well and he used to come round some times, I was to young to remember but my mum said he sang to me as a baby a few times
