And here is my first short story. It is a genesis story about the origin of color. Enjoy.
Hope you enjoyed it. Sorry if you think it is kind of long.
The Colors
Chrome sat in his throne, resting his head on his hand, trying to think of the way to please the people. They had all turned to him as their lives were saddened, turning to the god amongst them. But their pleas turned to hatred and mockery against him. “The Black God” he was often called, in regards to his appearance. Unlike the people, Chrome had no features. He was a black silhouette, nothing more than a humanoid figure.
Those who still had faith still called him Chrome, but within they all begged him to help as well. But there was little he could do. He was incapable of reaching the top of Mount Radiance. And there was no chance that he could negotiate with the greedy Saffron and Hyacinth. So for the moment being, the people would have to live in a black and white world, until the greedy high gods allow the colors freedom.
Chrome looked out over the world. The white sky was high above it; the whiter sun already setting. The silence of the people was overwhelming, within he could hear them wailing and begging for the joy of color. The wails grew louder until Chrome nearly collapsed to his knees. He looked away, not wanting to be reminded of his inability to help. He returned to his throne and assumed the earlier position. His sight began to become fuzzy, as he was drifting asleep. Drifting into his imagination, to his greatest desires. Drifting into a world that had color.
The dream ended when Chrome heard the sound of the doors opening slowly. As he regained consciousness, he tried to make out the person before him. The only issue was that it wasn’t a person at all. The one who disturbed his rest had not a human body, but one similar to Chrome’s. A silhouette stood there, brave and proud. The difference between the arrival and Chrome was that he was white in color, and was shorter, younger. Hardly a man grown.
“Who are you?” Chrome had to ask, although he should have been angry that he was disturbed at all.
“My god,” the white figure said, kneeling down. “I have come to help you. My name is Albicant.”
“You wish to help me? How exactly?” Chrome was unsure of what to think of him. He was a spirit of the colors, Chrome realized. “How long have you been free?”
“The greedy ones never captured me, my god. I have fought their attempts, and now wish to free my kin with your blessing.” Albicant must have spoken truly. When Chrome angered Saffron, he said he would black out the world. And standing before Chrome was the reason there was still grey.
“You are capable of reaching the top of Mount Radiance?” Chrome was overjoyed. This was his chance to win back the favor of the people. “Albicant, you are free to rescue the others! You will be a great savior! You shall be loved for centuries!”
Albicant kneeled gratefully. “I would be eternally thankful if you would be so kind as to give me a proper weapon.”
Chrome quickly found the sword he used for many ages before. A black silhouette of a sword, nothing more. But it was sharp and had won many battles before. “Take it! Take it and save your kin!”
Albicant took the sword, causing a beautiful contrast against his bodice. He left the chamber and took a horse of Chrome. It was a shadowy steed with eyes of white. It took off quickly, and galloped even faster. It wasn’t long until the great mountain stood before him, the top hidden above the clouds.
Albicant set up camp a quarter the way up. The night made it very difficult for him to see much in the thick forest that covered the mountain. However, his white color made him highly visible. He was resting by the fire when a high pitch voice spoke in the trees.
“You have fought a long way just to come to our front door.” It snickered. The sound seemed to come from everywhere at once. The speaker’s movements were too fast to point out a position.
“Come out! Come out and fight me!” Ablicant yelled.
From the trees, a colorful woman with the lower half of a snake slithered out. It was very bright, radiating the yellows and blues, reds and greens, purples and oranges.
“Hyacinth.” Albicant spat, wielding the sword of Chrome.
“Ah, good. You recognize me. My husband will be quite joyful tonight, when I show him your body.” Swiftly, Hyacinth coiled herself around him. Her lower half was longer than he realized as she tightened the grip around his body.
Albicant struggled, but as the grip tightened still, he began to lose consciousness. “N-no!” He used all his force to pull the sword out from under the reptilian scales of Hyacinth. He thrust it deep into her side, and she quickly released him and move away.
“You think you can stop me, you spirit.” She charged at him to attack, but Albicant swung the sword at her before she touched him. A bright white liquid dripped out of the wound on her cheek. “How…?” Hyacinth caught sight of the sword and reared away. “You have his weapon!” She exclaimed.
“The weapon of the greatest god,” Albicant smirked.
“Saffron will hear of this!” She screamed, before reeling away back from where she came. He would have chased after, but Hyacinth was too fast for him.
The next morning, Albicant rode further up the mountain. The closer he got to the top, he noticed that there was a minor tint in the environment. By the time he reached the gates of the summit every hue was visible. Dismounting, Albicant climbed the great golden gates.
A city existed up there, full of the other spirits.
“My brethren! Come with me! Be free of this mountain and travel where you wish!” Albicant yelled, the others looking towards him. However not long after, the sky darkened. From the skies, an electric figure came down. Its colors ever shifting.
“Now, Albicant. How could I ever thank you for making this easy?” Saffron chuckled.
“I am leaving with my kin!” Albicant yelled, holding his sword out.
“Are you sure about that?” In one quick movement, Saffron had his sword out and was on Albicant. The savior was just in time to match the attack, and parry Saffron.
The battle raged on, the sounds of metal singing in the air. Albicant grew exhausted and could hardly fight much more. “What’s wrong, spirit? Can’t handle me?” Saffron slammed into Albicant, knocking the smaller deity to the ground. Chrome’s sword slid away from him and Albicant looked up at the victor.
“Goodbye, stupid spirit!” Saffron screamed as he raised his greatsword. Albicant braced himself and looked away. A grunt let out and when Albicant looked up again, Chrome’s sword was protruding from Saffron’s belly. The sword pulled out, and the body of Saffron collapsed revealing his killer. Two spirits stood there, one light blue the other yellow.
“There will be a place of high honor for you both!” He exclaimed. Albicant opened the gates and escorted his kin down the mountain.
As the people awoke the next morning, they rejoiced as they saw the colorful world. They rushed to the temples to pray thanks. They all thanked and praised their god. But it hadn’t been to Chrome. The people thanked Albicant and accepted him as the one true god.
Albicant’s ego grew from this. His humble behavior was wiped, as he kicked Chrome out from his throne. Chrome was forced to the shadows, still blamed for the Era of Grey.
The black darkness was feared and hated, man only wanting to bathe in the white light of Albicant.
