I see this as a potential problem. Normally I wouldn't complain about region coding, but the fact is when you look at the very specific market of JRPG's being released in the US on the DS, it's becoming very limited, to the point where we are starting to have to import. A couple of examples: Japan created the Luminous Arc series, which has three games right now. After the second game came out, they stopped releasing the series in America. The Shining Force series has continued also, with its Shining Force: Feather game for DS. It's also not coming out in America like we thought. And this doesn't even stop with the DS. There are games like Tales of Graces for the Wii that are now being released in Japan but not in America.
You see what I mean? The market is dwindling in America. This leaves those of us who really want to play these games to import them from Japan, otherwise we'd never get to play them. Now with this potential region coding, we're basically being screwed over. Any good games that come out in Japan only will be completely out of our means to play. This will only lead to a lot of online piracy of the games.
