I know Storm and Deku did that Hollywood Mafia game that wasn't technically bastard, but had a twist to it, so I'm wondering if maybe this is something similar in that it's not your traditional mafia game.

Based on my own role and Ex's reaction (I think it was Ex anyways, long day) I'd wager the twist is everything seems bastard but the game actually plays straight.

hollywood mafia wasn't bastard but it was like 4 mafia teams and an indept that picked which kill was going through each night

it hasn't the "unfairness" implied by bastard, but it had an unconventional mechanic that subverted more traditional expectations like a town vs mafia scenario

I never felt like bastard implied unfair, just that expectations would be subverted. Like cops that find their targets alignment by flipping them. Not really unfair and something easily catchable and worked around. But some people do be merciless.

Given the theme of the game, I could definitely see there being a twist on the traditional mafia game. I think we should still play it like a traditional mafia game and not try to worry too much about what the twist might be this early on, but just keep in mind that things might not be straightforward. Like, I don't think we need to come up with any type of strategies like "we shouldn't vote for the day and see what happens".
