Note: The roleplay uses some names and ideas from Isaac Asimov’s Robot Series, if anybody’s familiar with them.

Prologue

The year is 2194; through miraculous means, mankind has discovered and successfully built the hyperspatial drive to power large battleships across the void of empty space. Ballistic weapons, however, have remained fundamentally the same; cooperation between world governments all over the planet put aside their differences (political, religious, etc.) in an attempt to bring down the overall population of Earth and to explore the unknown.

They were successful. Nuclear fusion was made stable enough to allow power output to be increased exponentially; thus the power problem for Earth’s new ships were solved. As the years passed, the technology grew more and more advanced, until an entire battalion, christened the Home Fleet, consisted of nearly 30-40 ships within the solar system. Meanwhile, more ships were colonizing Mars, Ceres the asteroid, and even habitable planets outside of the solar system; all this occurred by the year 2118. Handheld weapons were being stored away in the depths of depots because there was no longer any use for them. A confederation of ‘Outer Worlds’ was formed, with the emigrants from Earth learning to govern for themselves so far away from the mother planet. It seemed as though the future of mankind was infinitely promising with the expansion of the human race, while keeping its history alive on Earth…

Until the old field of politics kicked into play approximately 150 years after the first settlement. Considering the fact that those that remained on the mother planet did not have to spend time rehabilitating themselves to new lives, more manpower could be put into advancing the needs of the ordinary man. Food could be grown at a rapid pace without the expense of physical human farming techniques, hovering cars were made to have a near 0% rate of casualty, and many others. The Outer Worlds were made of the best and brightest scientists, and they were able to develop more advanced weapons; however, as both sides knew, the most advanced technologies wouldn’t matter if the general population was dissatisfied.

People living on the Outer Worlds soon realized that they were getting second treatment by the government of Earth, which was giving more attention to its now 5 billion-strong population. With most of its people gone, the remaining Earthmen had a better standard of living, as opposed to those on the Outer Worlds (nicknamed Outies), who were still maintaining the terraformation of their new lands and struggled with adapting to their everyday lives. Their demands for greater independence and better treatment finally reached the ears of the Earth government, who handed the few Outer Worlds 15 ships of the line, along with a year’s food supply for each major planet in the Outer World Confederation.

Even with this ‘peace offering’, tensions continued to rise, and Earth finally declared an unofficial state of emergency when it was discovered Aurora, the leader of the Outer Worlds, was secretly building a fleet of its own; weapons were dusted off, energy shields were developed, and advanced guns were mounted on every ship; the same was done by the Outer Worlds. Both sides, though ready for war, merely waited for the other to make a move.

Factions:
Earth – consists of the planet itself and most of the outlying colonies in the Solar System, plus those just outside. Capital of the planet itself is New York City.

Outer Worlds – the first extraterrestrial settlements by mankind; the area of the Galaxy where most of the Outer Worlds are situated is located almost 15 light-years away from Earth’s Solar System.

Locations
United Nations
Earth – the homeworld of humanity, and rival of the Outer Worlds. With most of its citizens floating somewhere around the middle class, the UN creates more tension with the Outer Worlds by providing more attention to those on Earth. Many of Earth’s citizens have also colonized the nearby Moon.

Mars, Asteroid Belt – Earth colonies.

Pluto – Earth military outpost.

Outer World Confederation
Aurora – the capital planet of the Outer Worlds. Aurora was the 5th planet settled, but quickly became the most advanced due to the ease of its terraforming and heavy military force. It is about 1.5 times the size of Earth, and would be nearly impossible for the Earth Home Fleet to assail, even in full force, due to its advanced satellites.

Methos – one of the planets outside of the Solar System rich in resources. Methos is known for building first-class ships, sold to both Outer World and Earth customers; its former leaders were sympathetic to Earth’s objectives in the Milky Way, so loyalty is not one of their more important traits.
