I give it a solid 7/10.

It is baffling how consistent George A Romero's Of The Dead films are. Even latter entries Diary and Survival manage to do interesting things with the zombie genre long after it had stagnated.

A Sweeping epic. Size of the fleet still takes my breath away. In my opinion one of Brad Pitt’s best films. Yes, it’s goofy that Orlando Bloom is an amazing archer just like in The Lord of the Rings, and Peter O’Toole listening to priests instead of his sons is annoying. Still, I wish they made more epics like these.

A Quiet Place- 5/10

i get that everyone likes it but like why? Too me it was boring, until the end which was good. It wasn't that scary, and it didn't get me emotional or anything which was kinda the point?

My first viewing I did not like it actually. Only when I saw all Biblical allegories did I go, "that is kinda neat."

haven't heard of any of those but i'll check them out
  • Death Angels (Demogorgons, Creatures) alludes to the Four Angels of Euphrates that will rise up and kill 1/3 of Mankind (Revelation 9:13-19)
  • Part II Spoiler
    • In Part II you discover they come down on Asteriods, which alludes to Wormwood (Revelation 8:11)
    [*]
  • The Death Angels responds to sound that hurts them, Jesus is called The Word of God (Logos)
  • The Family is Christian, they pray and put a cross at the bridge for the child who died.
  • The One Family Member sacrifices themself to save the others, that is Jesus' teaching "no greater love than to lay down your life for your friends."
  • The Deaf Girl being a threat to the angels is the verse, "your power is manifest in weakness" is 2 Corinthians 12:9
  • Part II really should be watch right after, because it continues right where the first movie ends and helps these points make sense.

Finally watched My Soul to Take and as Wes Craven's penultimate film, it is a lot better than its initial reception made it seem, but ultimately is pretty barebones for its intriguing premise. I've now seen all of Craven's theatrically released feature films and honestly it still hurts nearly a decade after his passing. He was a filmmaker with too much soul to just be stuck making relatively low budget horror films. Not that I find anything wrong with that niche, of course, but it feels like we only ever got glimpses into a side of Craven that could have truly lit the world on fire. I deeply respect how he never looked down on the types of films he was making, the Scream films are a testament to the love he had for the genre. Apparently he was quite passionate about My Soul to Take and while I'm not sure I can completely understand, I can see those nooks and crannies in it that seemed to be what truly peaked his interest throughout his filmography. I wish he was able to see the impact he's had on the filmmakers of the horror genre and beyond today, he was not just a footnote, but a cornerstone upon which the future of filmmaking relies.

Binging the Toy Story films today, I watched 1 through 3 and all the animated shorts, really good series. I'm about to start Toy Story 4, heard its the weakest of the bunch.

First one is very Halloweenish at Sid’s.

Tremors
10/10
Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward
The Director took the idea of the Dune Worms and made is much more terrifying. Tremors accomplishes the hardest genre of all, Horror-Comedy, most are either too much horror and not funny or the humor takes you out if the horror; Tremors balances the tension with the teasing.
