to start with, this is me in my second file, accidentally bringing Karin to the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. I decided to test this further in my main file.
Trial 1
I'm trying to bring him to Hateno Beach.
so far so good.
a chuchu scared him and he got stuck here.
Observation 1: being startled by enemies causes the subject to get stuck in place.
Observation 2: subject will disappear as soon as they leave your field of view.
Trial 2
It's not just Karin, all 5 of the kids who are running around can follow you. This time, the goal is to see if I can get them past Mount Lanayru.
lost one of them.
Down to two. they bump into each other so often its hilarious
making progress
we've arrived at the base of the mountain.
it's working......
You can almost hear how hard I was laughing at this. they wouldn't go any farther than that, though. This lead to a few questions.
Observation 3: Karin, Aster, Nebb, Narah, and Teebo will all follow you. Azu and Sefaro acknowledge that you carry a blue flame but will not follow you.
Observation 4: subjects will leave if you walk too fast.
Observation 5: carrying a blue flame acts as Level 2 cold resistance, making you completely immune to the frigid temperatures.
So, what stopped the subjects from continuing any further? 3 possibilities: Terrain, Daylight, Distance. Was the snow too hard for them to walk in? Was it too dark out for their schedule to allow them to continue? Was it too far away from the village to allow them to continue? I seek to answer these questions in time. I also learned something else interesting:
It seems that before Purah's failed experiment that gave her the body of a child, she would often visit the village. So often that everyone, even Azu and Sefaro, knew her by name. The younger people in the village like Ivee affectionately call her "Grandma Purah". I always got the impression that she was always kind of a hermit up there in her lab, but apparently not. She used to be close to the villagers, so close that the old folks in Hateno are worried that they haven't seen her in a while. I found that really interesting.
Also, Tamana, if you tell her that you are working for Purah, will praise you for being a nice boy and give you another egg. I found that funny. Shoulda taken a screenshot of that.
Trial 3
nothing to see here Thadd, go back to racistly guarding the gate.
This is as far as they would go out the front of the village. so distance is a factor. This means I can't bring them to the Lynel,
@Satan sorry
Observation 6: there is a certain distance away from the village at which subjects will no longer follow you and turn back. distance is proven to be a factor.
Observation 7: subjects will also turn back at 8:00 PM regardless of where you are. daylight is also proven to be a factor.
oops
Trial 4
I tried to see how far I could take Aster down the beach trail. Apparently she won't go farther than the pond.
of course you just HAD to show up now, yiga clan.
she's ok tho
Observation 8: subjects will move past the distance limit if they are fleeing from an enemy.
Trial 5
finally, i tried seeing how far up Ebon Mountain they would go. They stopped about halfway up.
Nebb got stuck on his way back down.
Observation 9: terrain can cause subjects to get stuck. all 3 possibilities-- distance, daylight, and terrain-- are all proven to be factors.
Observation 10: when subjects leave to return to the village, they do not take the path, they make a beeline for the center of the village, regardless of the terrain.
This was a lot of fun to experiment with, but what with distance, daylight, and terrain constraints, there isnt really much I can do to exploit it. It was fun while it lasted, though.
Bonus:
