Loftwing Flights Near Pumpkin

I've stumbled across a ring of [something] flying in the area between the hollowed out volcano and the Pumpkin Landing. There are several of them, and as you approach, they fly away. Anyone know what this is or what to do with it? I'm super curious. Let me know if you need anymore details or a better description.

These are flying squirrels. When diving from high up, they gather near you. Skydive at them to collect them, and if you can collect them all before you hit the Lumpy Pumpkin, you get a Red Rupee.
