Warcraft II was in the first generation of PC games that started making the transition from MIDI to digitized CD music. It was really solid top to bottom.

You could put almost anything from Chrono Trigger and not go wrong. The composing team for this game was absurd -Yasunori Mitsuda, Nobuo Uematsu, and Noriko Matsueda.

I can't find my post from a while back, so I'll have to rethink...

These are in no particular order, just some of my favourite tracks -- not necessarily my favourites on their own, as a single peice of music but what they mean to the game and how I associate them with the game itself.

Ending Credits - Twilight Princess

I'll say that firstly this is my "all time" favorite track in any video game, I won't try and rank the others but this is easily my favourite. Since this is my second favourite game of all time, I will of course be inclined to have positive feelings towards this game and this track just sums that up for me. It's a great peice, quite long (8+ minutes) but it's as if it's taking you through all the scenes, emotions and tones of the game. You have the slow build up, the highs, the lows, the mysterious/darkish moments, then the main section which is my favorite and then the latter which is a lovely way to close it out and the game itself. I will always remember this track and even as I begin to move past games as I'm already doing, I will still listen to this song just to be taken back.

Avion Theme - Shadow of the Colossus

Such an amazing and simplistic game and one of my favourites of all my time. Out of all the great boss battles, Avion sticks out to me the most. Just that epic scene of you trying to take down this Colossus bird like being and the challenge if trying to hold on. All the while, you had this epic music in the background. It just felt as of you were actually fighting a giant humongous bird, just really set the scene in my opinion.

Main Theme - Croc: Legend of the Gobbos

One of the first games I ever remember playing and I will treasure it for that very reason. It may not have been the best game, in retrospective, but nonetheless I loved it as a kid and, at the end of the day, that's all that really matters. Despite its clear flaws, the soundtrack was amazing, I'd even match it with against the likes of Mario. Such a cheerful and light hearted theme, with this track in particular emphasising that the most in my opinion.

Sunny Beach - Spyro 2

Nostalgia again here. However this game I rate very highly, it's in my top ten for sure and one of the best platformer/adventure games I've ever played. The sheer amount of diverse levels were just great and each were accompanied by a great track. All of the music tracks were incredibly catchy, fun and they suited the level theme really well. This level though we sone of my favourites and that would also he the case for the track too.

Full Soundtrack - Heavy Rain

I had to put the whole soundtrack in here because it would be unfair if I didn't. This game is one of my all time favourites, it is unlike anything I have ever played before, just has that sense of uniqueness. The story was incredibly touching, more so than most movies, in fact, it is! Because we were mainly playing as Ethan, that meant we were obliged to form a connection to him, making the outcomes and occurrences even more impactful. This isn't a light hearted and fun soundtrack don't get me wrong, but it suits the tone of the game down to a tee. The tracks in this game heightened those moments of sadness, fear, hate, compassion, just everything you felt in the game, basically amazing.

Going to have to go with Mass Effect 3, say what you want about the ending, the music is perfect for every scene. The real Mass Effect fans pretty much regard the song "Leaving Earth" as the theme of the game. Here's the song, with the scene it's played over. It's not really spoilery, less so than the trailers actually. It's a very sad-sounding song and very emotionally moving. Especially combined with the video.
