Does church membership really expire for someone who moves away?

They could say your membership is inactive instead of expired.
According to Romans 10:9-10, John 3:16-18, John 6:40, John 10:25-30, Philippians 3:9, Ephesians 2:8-9, Acts 15:6-11, and so many more the church is not the door to heaven, Jesus is and faith (belief, trust) in Him.

There are people who believe that if you don't like the church in your town then tough - you gotta go to it anyway, and shouldn't be driving to a church in a different town. Maybe that's how they think.

well I shouldn't have to transfer my membership from my hometown's church over to the church here in the town/city that I live in now just to keep my membership active so it doesn't "expire" why couldn't they have sent me a letter like 2 or 3 years ago to try to pull that crap on me instead of now?

If it's taken them that long to notice you're not there anymore, they might not miss you very much. I'd be pretty miffed. That to me sounds like an embarrassingly long amount of time. Or maybe the place is really disorganized/incompetent.
