Can you be a fan of a game you've never played?

You can be a fan but you won't be as engrossed or dedicated to the game unless you play it yourself. I remember watching some Overwatch streams when it came out and being interested in it but I never got around to playing it and haven't watched anything related to that game in over 2 years.

I was a fan of splatoon for a good while before I even played the first game on the wii u and after playing it I definitely confirmed to myself this is a series I will be a fan of. The world is a fascinating one and the whole concept is really neat.

Yeah, I think so. After all, there are ways of experiencing a game apart from just playing it yourself. I've watched videos or listened to discussions about series I had yet to play and still considered myself a fan, given those videos and discussions caused me to gain interest in said series.
