In any form of media, high-stakes events often heighten the sense of urgency and drama within the confines of said media. This being noted, have you experienced cases in which the stakes are put at a point so insurmountably high that it becomes almost comical? For flexibility's sake, have there been instances where the stakes were set too low for a given situation, taking you out of the experience as a result?

One time the stakes for my badminton net were too high and they came out of the ground.

Problem with lazy new media. Everything's gotta get ZOMG!! EPIC!!! MORE BIGGER AND BETTER AND LOUDER THAN BEFORE!! Yesterday we wuz saving New York (again). Today we're saving TEH WURLD!! TOMORROW: THE GALAXY!!! o_Oo_Oo_O

It's no wonder audiences are so bored

The stakes don't have to be any higher than before for the movie or game or whatever to be better than whatever one preceded it. Audiences just have to have a reason to care.
