A guardian of the Great Deku Tree

Stumbling over this I couldn't help but think how great it would be to encounter a forest spirit protecting the Great Deku Tree.

A giant warrior like this that you would have to battle, as a test of courage, before getting to interact with the Great Deku Tree and retrieve the master sword.

That doesn't really seem likely, because usually the Deku Tree is the forest spirit. I know for sure it is in WW, and I think it also is in OoT and BotW. So while a guardian for the Deku Tree could be a cool idea, I don't think the guardian would be the forest spirit, it would be something more like a golem. A mindless servant who takes orders from the Tree.
